I am struggling with whether to go with the Lem DAO only or DA/SA HK trigger for the P30. I would like to use for home defense. Currently have a VP9 but trigger is too light for my comfort considering I may be groggy in the middle of the night and looking for a margin of safety without an actual frame safety. How do others feel about this?

Triggers are super subjective; people will love and hate various triggers and employ various adjectives to quantify it.

LEM gives you one pull: a long, light double action only. You can change the weight, light or heavy, shorten with v4.1. that doesn't really sound like what you are after.

DA/SA is the classic answer to the problem of either going full DA like a revolver or SA only like various classic pistols. You get that long heavy first shot and nice shots after that. At the range you can shoot single action only if you don't decock and you can manually cock the hammer. Sounds like this might be what you are looking for, especially if you have a vp9 or lem carry gun you should get at least one da/sa HK too. Though I would vote USP Tactical or hk45, or at least p30L, but you only asked actions...

I like my HKs in DA/SA. Part of it is that I struggle with the LEM and tend to dump shots low even with regular practice, and part of it is that I shoot DA/SA SIGs and like the consistency. The LEM is a great system, but it doesn't work for everybody. I would try before you buy, and if possible spend more than a few rounds with it before committing.

Your best bet to make a solid choice would be to find a range where you can shoot both kinds of actions then pick the one you prefer. The LEM trigger is light, but the trigger travel distance is a feature that may appeal to you. However, the trigger system is unique and isn't something that everyone would like.

love LEM personally, but it is very unique and an "acquired taste".
Agreed. I really like the LEM, but my spouse at least at this point prefers DA/SA with the safety off.

the unfortunate part about the p series is you cant switch back and forth between variants like you could the USP lines.
Correct if you buy a V1 or V2 LEM P30, as the frame does not have the DA/SA cuts. But if you start with purchase of a V3 DA/SA, it can be converted to V1 or V2 LEM, with or without the manual safety (and back to DA/SA). My originally-V3 P30LS is currently a 4.1 LEM, with safety lever, carried with safety off. Spouse's P30SKS is a V3 DA/SA.

My P2000sk originally came with the V2 trigger. It was nice, but a little heavier than I would have preferred. So I bought springs to turn it into a V1, which cost about twelve bucks. But I found the V1 too light. So I switched them up and made it into a V4. That was better, but not perfect. So I switched them up again, and this time, the trigger was just right.

For concealed carry, the BEST set up for me is either LEM or SAO. I like both much better than DA/SA or conventional striker fired.

Only you can decide for yourself what's the best trigger.
If the VP striker trigger is too light for your liking?
Then you will likely find the V1 Light LEM too light as well at ~4.5 lbs.
You can change the V1 to V2 with OEM springs and get a heavier pull weight. ~7 lbs.
And there are other combinations in between (TGS).
Check the Technical Reference section for details.
