HK 93 NFA, just sent in form 4

I just started the paper work and hope to get it in October. I want to put a 53 top on it, what has to be done to make it function? My first HK. Is it like an AR put the lower on and go?

Uh sorry buddy, with HK rifles the upper is the firearm.
Hmm. Not really sure what you're talking about. Did you buy a registered sear? If so then you don't own an HK 93. You own an HK auto sear. You'll need to buy a 93 or clone separately. If you buy a real 93, you'll also have to purchase a full auto carrier as well as a full auto clipped and pinned lower unless your sear comes with one.
Take a read over here this will give you some background on H&K conversions, sears, and how all that works.
What I would like to have is a shorter barrel, so when I have my supressor on it the ovrall length is normal.

If you have a registered receiver NFA HK93, an interesting option is the ~ 12" 33K.

So do you have a sear, a registered receiver, or a registered trigger box? What type of NFA item you have will dictate what options are available to you.

This was what I was trying to ask.

I saw that, but the OP is new 'round here, and thought a direct question might get us the information we need to answer the original question.
I have a registered receiver...
Are you making it a SBR? Or is it a registered full-auto receiver?
I have a registered receiver...
With a registered receiver there is no swapping uppers... the upper is the registered part. So you use it as-is, there is no easy do-at home caliber/configuration swapping that can be done with a registered receiver other than changing the buttstock/forearm.
Can I put a shorter barrel on it. It is an NFA full-auto HK93 16" barrel.

Yes, any length barrel may be used.
Yes, you can put a shorter barrel in but these aren't like m16s. The barrel is semi-permanent so no easy barrel or receiver swaps on HKs.

And you most likely won't see it until 2013. Form 4s are at something like 7 months now and the waits keep getting longer.
It seems like it would be a whole lot easier to build a 53 on a new receiver from a cut down kit, but I'm sure one of the good builders on here could convert it to 53 length without destroying the registered receiver. It would involve cutting out the current cocking tube and re-welding a shorter one in addition to the barrel installation. Might do a bit of research on suppressors and 53-length barrels though. From what i've read, most suppressor manufacturers don't recommend it because of the sub 10" barrel length. Something about muzzle blast destroying the internals...

Unless the OP wants a full-auto 53.

yeah, thats a good idea. destroy a registered receiver to have a semi 53, and take one more full auto off the market to drive up prices while your at it.
OP,

No it is not like your AR15 or M16 rifles.

Yes, you can turn it into an HK53. But you will have to send the rifle off to an HK smith. Do your homework and use a trusted smith. You don't want someone welding on an NFA gun that you don't trust.

BTW, if you are having it cut down I would look at the 33k and not the 53 as the 33k runs better with a silencer.

I'm guessing you want a 33k barrel as most suppressor manufacturers don't want their suppressors to be used on anything shorter than 11 or 12". A 53 has a barrel shorter than 9".
