I noticed on the HK SP5K there are grooves on the side of the upper that makes me think its possible for a retractable brace of some sort. I know there are retractable STOCKS for the full size MP5. Did HK ever make the same for the MP5K or is the side folding stock the only option?

I saw the side folding brace for the SP5K on hkparts.net, but looking for a retractable version (if it exists).

Yes. I have several SBR registered receivers, but thanks for looking out for me. I'm specifically looking for a retractable brace that utilizes the two "rods" that would go in and out of the two grooves in the receiver. I want to keep it a pistol and out of NFA so I can take it out of state when I want.

The problem with stocks (or braces) that use the rods is that they make the overall length of the pistol quite long. Take, for instance, the stock that HKParts offers here. Take a look at the photo of the stock. That's fully collapsed! Take note of the extra length that the stock adds to the overall length of the "K".

Yeah, that's not the one I'm talking about. That thing is horrible looking. That's a PDW stock that utilizes a short buffer tube. I'm talking about the traditional retractable stock that you see on a HK MP5.

SB Tactical makes a great retracting BRACE for the Sig MPX, with all the SP5K's being sold there should be a market for them to design and build one. Plus the commie states that don't allow SBR's are a prime market.

All NFA talk aside, the CDNN ad is slightly misleading:

"HK MP5K SP89 SIDE FOLDING STOCK

ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT
Manufacturer: HECKLER & KOCH
Model: MP5
Color: BLACK
Composition: SYNTHETIC
SKU: SWMP5KSF

These MP5K stocks are identical to the stock supplied with German guns, however they are not marked HK. Does not fit HK94, but will fit SBR SP89's. ALL NFA RULES APPLY!!!

Excellent fit and finish with Coharie Arms, Inc. logo."

The manufacturer says HK, but based on the SW "special weapons" sku and coharie logo it seems you are getting a Bailey stock.

Some of the vendors around here have proper braces for a good price, or the choate or HK marked stocks:
