HK USP .40 Custom Combat Modifications?

I’ve posted on my frustration with the discontinued and unavailable decal sandpaper grips for my USP. I’m strongly considering removing them altogether. Or buying the USP45 decal grips and modifying them

Trigger- considering converting the standard trigger to the match trigger. Thoughts ?

Sights - it has the Novak sights which came standard. I’m strongly considering changing those to a set of Trijicon NS.
I’ll keep the Novak Sights if I decide to sell but for me, whether home defense, or tactical carry, NS are necessary

I don’t wish to detract from its resale - should I decide to sell it , though it would seem these mods wouldn’t detract from its value

Extractor - it’s cheap enough and this one discolored which seems common after a few hundred rounds so I’ll probably change it out too

Any other modifications, recommendations or comments/concerns are welcome

On the grip tape, get some cheap skateboard tape and figure out the cleanest way to shape it and make cuts. I'm sure you can make a paper and pencil scratch stensil over the grip, then cut it out with some stainless scissors.

The Novak Sights are ok , I just prefer NS on my pistols.
Grip tape - LOL, I could indeed. Been wearing Kost out on a thread dedicated to just the grips. He’s been gracious and answered all my questions. It appears even Amazon is out of it . I’ll figure it out eventually …

For buyers that would pay a premium for an example of that model (including me), you will definitely detract from the guns value to the point I would pass on it even though it seems the changes your are making are “improvements”. If I was you I would strongly consider selling it outright, you should get more than enough to purchase a new USP with all the series improvements and then do whatever sights and triggers you like without modifying a limited production model that is worth more on the market than one modified in any way. The market generally devalues attempts to modernize and/or customize limited production models.
Aside from that, the modifications mentioned by others are solid and great mods just not to a limited production gun that is no longer made unless “I got it to shoot it and don’t care”...but you’d do because you were rightly concerned about devaluation and asked about it.

Thank you. This is the type of information I was looking for. I’ve actually considered selling the CC buying a newer one and adding the jet funnel - which was part of the motivation for buying it
I’ll probably keep the Novak Sights but might upgrade the trigger which I believe some of the CC models came with. Just not the one I purchased…

It’s a great pistol. The decal grip tape that’s slightly peeled irritated the heck out of me but that’s a minor, correctable issue

thanks

If you're stating that the jet funnel mag- well balances out the pistol and reduces the recoil impulse or inertia as you state, I agree. This is essentially the same principle I use on my bows. I've bow-hunted for decades and always hunted with an attached quiver including arrows, even in backcountry hunts. Given the advancement in technology the hand shock is all but completely neutralized. The presence of a quiver also assists in quieting the bow if it is correctly integrated and assists in a more stable "hold".

We agree

Ive searched a few times to see if there was ever any discussion of stabilizers for firearms, as there is for bows. Archers will install a long rod, probably anywhere from 1 to 4 feet, onto their bow with a weight on the end. For competition archers, this seems to be a 3 or 4 foot rod going forward parallel to the arrow, and for hunters it appears they will use a shorter rod with perhaps one facing forward and another aft, with removable weights on the end to balance the weight. Same principle, having the mass far away from the bow acts as a damper and stabilizes the bow with increased moment of inertia.

I saw a picture online a long time ago of a handgun in Europe that had a long rod installed facing backwards parallel to the shooter arm, but it had a weight on the end instead of some kind of brace set up. The best explanation was that it was to increase the length of the firearm to meet some minimum length requirement in that country, but it still appeared to serve some kind of stabilizer function. Searches turn up nothing, Id be really interested to hear discussion on stabilizer rods or tuned mass dampers for firearms. There's definitely some useful physics and technology we've skipped over as a community.

If you plan to keep the Custom Combat, make whatever upgrades make the USP your own with whatever modifications you think are necessary.

If you at one point think the USP will be sold. Replace the worn DecalGrip and either contact Novak on replacement sights or Tritium vials for the sights.
Modifications will greatly devalue the Custom Combat, be prepared to lose whatever value the Custom Combat has in it's present configuration.

I have an OD Green USP Tactical. 45(1/500)
That I won't modify in any way to preserve it's value, including shooting it. At this point I'm not sure if I will keep or sell it. Buyers of these type limited production USP's tend to look for unmolested examples, and will bring highest resale value.

To me a used modified USP is just that, an example I will always pass on. I buy gently used in stock configuration .
