Hi All. Im new to this forum and also a fairly new HK owner. I bought my Hk usp 40 new about three months and up untill about a month ago it has run flawlessly untill one day after a long day of shooting the gun ejected a live round out with a spent case. I thought it was a strange fluke at first but then it did it again and again. its always the last two rounds of magazine. Also last time out it started splitting cases. It split two cases out of two hundred both times caused a failure to eject. Could be bad brass. I was using winchester white box.My friend was using the same stuff and had no issues though. Please let me know what you guys think.

Change to Federal Ammo for starters...WWB has had recurring QC issues...after I switched brands(before I started reloading) ran flawless without any squibs-close to 1000 rounds...*search WWB to see what I mean*

The double eject issue is just f*ckin weird tho....same magazine doing it each time or different mags?

Try loading 10 in the mags...it could be stiff mag springs....if it solves the issue you could leave the mags loaded to soften the springs--I rotate mine 2 loaded and 4 unloaded....every 2 weeks I swap em

Post results...its a peculiar one and could be helpful in the future!

And welcome to the asylum...er...forum

I buy second-hand mags when I can...so I can't say how tight 'minty fresh' new mags are...but it definately sounds like a mag issue....

Sounds like a stupuid question--but--are you certain you didn't overload the mags with an extra round? It is entirely possible to do (I just tried!) And easily overlooked....would possible cause additional spring tension and lob out a spare round....

No im pretty sure i am not overloading the mags. Thats good thinking though. I agree it does seem to be a mag issue. I have marked the mags that i have had a problem with and im looking at picking up some new ones. IS there a place online to buy used mags?

Do you have a way to caliper the lips of the mags? I would be curious to know what the measurements are on the non malfunctioning mags and the ones giving you issues. Have the mags been dropped on their lips, or are they just well used? It's just strange though, that the issue is only on the last two rounds when the spring pressure is the least.

They all measure about 0.364 in. at the narrowest point on the feed lips. They have not been dropped and they are not very worn. i've only had this gun for about three months and i have about 1500 rounds through it using these three mags.

I'd give HK Customer Service a call in the morning and let them know the issue. You may get some replacement mags out of the deal, if they find them defective.

Hi all. I called hk costomer service and as i expected they had never heard of this. They said it could possibly be worn feedlips on the magazines but the only thing they could do is have me send the gun in to have them take a look at it. At this point i dont want to do that. I will explore this problem more on my own and if i cant pin it down then i will send it in. I have feeling its the magazines though. Thanks for all of your suggestions

If you load just one round in the mag AND then pull the slide and leave it back (Don't let the slide return), does the round in the mag fly out ? Try this w/ a round in chamber and w/o.

If the round in the mag ejects, then I'd reckon it's the mag. If not then it is definitely due to teh arghasd.asdf03209asdfmz M..y inter...net ..*$()...conncsion )Q!^#)* is drooping.....argh.

If it is the last two rounds in the mag, it wouldn't be the mag spring. You can check this however by switching the springs out of the one good one you have with one of the bad mags you have. See if that does anything, I bet it won't though. If it is doing it with those two mags and not the other one, it has to be the mags, that would be my guess anyway.

Are you saying that it ejects the empty case as the slide goes back, and then when the slide goes forward, it strips the top round from the mag, and then instead of feeding that round into the chamber it pushes the live cartridge out of the ejection port? So you have no round in the chamber when this happens? and you have to rack the slide to fire again?

Is this correct?

Im not sure as to what is exacly happening. All i know is that it ejects the spent cartridge to the right and the live round to the left. Usually landing on my arm.

Get some new mags to try. This does not sound like a mag issue to me tho, something else is out of spec

After monkeying around with my USPf with some snapcaps and some dummy-rounds (pressed some FMJs into spent brass with my Dillon) and watching the magazine/slide....my conclusion is that you should check the left side of the magazine lips with a caliper...my hunch is that the left lip is deformed and it is allowing the last round to "slip" as the last bit of spring tension is let loose by the extractor chucking the empty; since the rounds staggered themselves in the magazine due to the odd number of rounds (13) the last round should alway be on the right side, snapping toward the left to come into battery...which would explain why its hopping to the left....

Just a theory...not claiming to be a gunsmith :)

Another theory is the magazine follower itself being defective...catching a round early and instead of allowing the round to slip into the extractor, the slide is catching and the round goes rogue....
