HK USP 45 barrel question.

I recently bought a USP 45 with a KF date code. The owner estimated 5-7000 rounds down range. The barrel hood is shiny silver like the barrel hood of a Sig P226. The rest of the barrel and the sides show wear but aren't silver/shiny. Did any USP 45's come with a shiny barrel hood from the factory? As I'm in California I have to wait 10 days to pick it up so I can't look at it right now but is it possible this USP45 has a conventional barrel rather than polygonal since it was an early USP45 or did all USP 45's come with polygonal barrels?

No idea on whether or not the barrel has traditional or polygonal rifling but I've seen USP barrels with the breech being almost completely silver...

This was on a USP Tactical .40 that was a police duty gun with an unknown number of rounds in it...

My barrels is still mostly black after 1325 rounds and there youtube video review of a USP 45 with 4900 rounds fired and his barrel near the breech still looks mostly black...

cant really give you any rock solid information other than this: Even IF that barrel has 50,000 rounds through it... if its polygonal rifling you'll NEVER wear it out in your lifetime..

no

Very early USP's had cut rifling, later models were polygonal.

In November, 1994 the barrel was changed from conventional land and groove to polygonal bore profile.

It looks like it was intentionally left silver from the factory. It looks much the same as the top of a Sig barrel where it is a polished silver. I saw that thread about the Experts but this is a standard USP 45 so I was curious if they did it on any standard models.

they did it with the standard USP as well (mentioned in the thread I linked). My KF USP45 has the shiny hood:

I bought it new in 95 but I've only put a few hundred rounds through it.

Sorry, double post, Thanks AngryDog, that's exactly the kind of historical info I was hoping someone might have. I am assuming your KF USP45 barrel is polygonal. I was curious if it was possible that a few barrels in the earliest USP 45's may have slipped out with the conventional barrel rifling and if that might be the sign.

yeah, mine's definitely polygonal. no idea when or why they changed the finish

Learn something all the time here... I've never seen the shiny barrel hood on the standard USP's.

here's a comparison shot:

I have seen a few like that, I actually thought they just wore that way.
My USP 9 also came with the shiny barrel hood from the factory. Mine is date coded KH
