I am trying to figure out how to stop the brass destruction when using a PTR-91 A3R. I can't try the snap on type of deflector because of the rail. I intend to eventually send this rifle out to have a paddle release installed, and it would be an ideal time to have this part welded on....but does it really work to save the brass from damage, or does it just prevent the brass from flying 1/4 mile?

Anybody using this, and if so, your thoughts?

When I owned an HK91 I did not care about the typical brass dent that it made. I reloaded them anyway. I sized each shell and proceeded with the reloading and never had a problem with any malfunction.

I have them on my HK91's. Less dent (not that it matters) and the brass dumps @ 2PM close by.

Plus it never wears out like the rubber deals.

Thanks. I haven't started to reload yet, but it's good to hear that it is still able to be reloaded with the dents.

Thanks for the info. If it reduces the case damage at all, I am going to buy one. Liking the green! Cerakote?

Will not help only will mangle them and drop closer for you. The reality of HK is mangled brass
Doesn't help at all with the case damage??

I don't care about the brass flying...that's what kids are for, but I was hoping it would reduce the damage to some degree.

a g3 (or clone) and brass damage are just parts of the relationship. I've just learned to buy low-er cost surplus berdan, and run that through the brass mangler.

The green is Ralph's custom process at RDTS.

I get smaller dents with it, mostly due to a different fulcrum point contacting the expelled case.

The reduction in 'fling' is good, as I have witnessed others being hit by hot brass.

Less liability is a good thing...

On the G3K's the brass still has dents etc. - but if you run brass through a Small base sizer die, tumble them - pure cosmetics. The worst deflectors are the ones on the MSG90A1 - extended hood - that mashes then mangles the brass

Thanks for the replies.

I am going to get one and eventually have it installed when a refinish is needed. I will update this thread when it's installed...somewhere between 6 months and 6 years from now.
