Just got my new HK45 home and need opinions. I have no experience CC a weapon and I have no extensive experience or hands on knowledge when it comes to holsters. I just have the last few days of research and a few days at the range with one. I'm not sure what type of holster I want to go with nor do I really know if I want to IWB or OWB, appendix carry, small of back etc. Leather, kydex, hybrid? And yes I know the full-size 45 is big for carry but I have to work with what I've got. Raven? Comp-tac? Crossbreed? Any help would be appreciated.

I have a Raven Phantom for my full size HK45 and you can in fact carry concealed if need be but I live in a state that is silent on open carry (my handgun permit states "License to carry handgun" nothing about concealed carry) so I open carry everywhere. However with a screw driver and different accessories I can carry and have carried concealed. Raven takes a while to make/ship but with the warranty/service/quality you simply can't go wrong.

Congrats on your 45. I have one, but couldn't ever bring myself to carry it due to the lengthy grip. However if I was carrying it, I would either go with a Comp-Tac Infidel IWB, or a Raven-type OWB with their pancake wings. The wings on the OWB model really help pull the grip in to the body. I personally like kydex because it's slim and doesn't bother me in the Florida heat. I'm sure other IWB options would carry closer, but I personally don't like a whole lot of holster property inside my pants. Again, just this guys' take.

Thanks for the quick responses guys. Im leaning toward the OWB route simply because of size. And I mean size of weapon and myself. I'm 5'11" about 240 (I powerlift I'm not the obese 240) and I can't see myself stuffing that thing in my trousers and being comfortable. Is the raven worth the long wait? I'm gonna pick up something smaller soon, most likely the 45C for carry. But for now I want this beast to be comfortable and secure. How is the retention with the kydex? Any problems I should be aware of?

No concerns here with the Raven. Fact is they have a no questions warranty for ANY defect for life. Check out their website and have a look. Will you ever need it? Probably not. It will not wear the finish on your slide as much as leather and is easy to clean. Just take it off and wash out with water/soap if need be. Leather is probably more comfortable, I have never had one and find Raven Phantom to be very comfortable however. The wait is due to large demand and they are hand made. The wait is nothing on the end product and warranty/CS is outstanding not to say other kydex/leather makers are not. Top shooters like Chris Costa, Travis Haley and Larry Vickers to name a few, use them (google Art of the Dynamic Handgun). The retention is great and even if you have a problem with it they WILL TAKE CARE OF YOU! Good luck brother and I hope to see one of the best combat pistols in some like minded gear! Shoot it and lets see some pics of the poor target real soon!

Yeah Raven holsters really took off once the guys at Magpul started using them. The turn around is just so long. I have a tactical course in March and just ordered a Kydex for my HK45c from Palmetto Tactical. From what one of the owners told me, they get the holsters out quicker than anyone. Great reviews too

So you guys pushed me over the edge. My girlfriend is ordering me the Raven as my valentines day present. I keep hearing about it and I just have to have it now. As far as the palmetto.. I might be putting in an order to have something while I wait for the raven. Can't hurt to have a backup in the closet. And no worries, Norml, as soon as I get my PC back up (I've been doing this from my phone) there will be pics on here and videos on YouTube. Thanks again gentlemen, I really appreciate the input.

Thanks for asking about holsters for the HK 45; I bought mine less than two weeks ago and am looking for holsters as well. I have my CCL (concealed carry license) so I will look for concealed carry IWB and OWB holsters. I know the handle is the most difficult part of the HK 45 to conceal, so again I appreciate you asking about holsters.

Thanks for the kind words TravDMH. Our average turn around is 4 days if we have the mold and 10 days If we don't have the mold yet. Let us know and we can make what you need.

No problem brother.. Can't get answers if you don't ask the questions. But I'm still very, very undecided because I'm the kind of guy that buys A and end up wishing for B, and once I get B, I need C. Palmetto sounds great, though I'll likely use them when I get my hk45c and use raven for my full-size HK45. Everybody who owns a HK45 should be on the lookout for 'used' holsters for sale in the next few months once I buy a bunch and sell what I don't like.
