HK51 flash hider gave up

I was at a shoot over the weekend and the 4 prong flash hider on my HK51 decided it didn’t want to be on my HK51 anymore.....think I need a new one. The threads on the barrel are fine, thing just split down the middle....literally! Granted I shot the living hell out of that gun, doing a duel with my neighbor who had a 7.5” M16. I ran 3-20’s in the same time frame he ran 2-30’s.

Barrel threads and muzzle are fine, the thing just gave out.

Thoughts on a new one?

If I was you, I'd probably get a new one.
Repairing the old one might be more trouble than it's worth.

 But seriously, I've never seen a flash hider self destruct.

I'd get a slotted one instead of duckbill/prong unless duckbill/prong looks is important.

I was joking about repairing it. Yeah this thing is going on the wall of “Well that didn’t work”

When I got the barreled receiver, this was on it and on it tight. I wonder if it wasn’t over tightened causing it to have stess against it. Then 60-80 rounds doing mag dumps heated it up enough to make it let go. I figured it came loose and feel off or got hit by a round as it unthreaded itself. Didn’t expect to find it split in two....one piece was 6 ft to the right and the other 4 ft to the left. The pieces literally went 90 degree to the gun. It was crazy where we found them.

Consider Smith Enterprises Vortex Flash Suppressor as replacement. Your presentation is the force generated by the HK51 is causing the split - unless the bullet is tumbling. Likewise these were used on HK53 and lack the barrier when the bullet exits the barrel. Another reason why blast deflectors are used - both to divert force and generate force for the firearm to cycle.

7.62x51mm NATO in a pistol length barrel has to be crazy loud.

A slotted flash hider will have a ring supporting the end and should be a more resistant to splitting the way your prong flash hider did.

Happened on my 51B and 53. They really bark and flash w/o one.
