Hi Guys,
I have a Vector HK53 with the 1:12 barrel. Well, given the 8" barrel and the 1:12 twist the bullets cartwheel all the way to the target and I can't hit anything. I need a light carbine to shoot accurately out to 100m. In addition, I can't put a suppressor on an 8" barrel. I was wondering if anyone ever build a 10.5" HK53 I guess I could use a HK93 barrel and have it cut down and threaded. I guess i would need a 1:7 or 1:9 twist barrel. Which ever is more accurate.

I am thinking of either calling Jason at IGF or RDTS to do the build/upgrade.

Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

I would suggest going with the RCM 1/7 barrel available at hkparts.net and have one of the HK builders here on the board install it for you....

That's the easy way, I understand, but I think the accuracy and the use of a can on the gun would be better served with a 10.5" barrel.

You are right about that one. I believe all suppressor manufacturers strongly urge agains use on barrels shorter than 10". If you do a search of the forum though you will find post from hk53 owners that use supressors without any problemscalthough I personally wouldnt do it...

The new AAC 7.62SD-N6 is rated for short 5.56 barrels as long as you use their muzzle brake mount which acts as a sacrificial blast baffle when the suppressor is installed. I am trying to find the minimum barrel length they recommend but I believe it was 8 or 9". There is also the HK33K which was a short barrel 33/93 around 12" or so.

Personally, I'd sell the V53 as is. I'd get a 33 parts set and a RCM 33K barrel and a RCM #3 locking piece. You'd have a hammer forged nitrited barrel with a longer sight radius. I'm sure you could have a 33K barrel shortened to 10" and installed in your V53. But between the custom work on the barrel, installation and refinish to the V53, I'd think the 33K build would be less money, as it would be a straight ahead build without custom work.

To me a 33K is the perfect length. It's short but not too short. A 53 with a longer barrel would look kind of funny to me. I would bet that changing the barrel to a RCM 53 barrel would help quite a bit.

The 33 is probaly the right length, but isn't it heavier than a 53? In addition, I already have the V53 SBR with my name on it, so I don't want to deal with a new NFA transfer. If the 10" barrel poses a problem to instrall/build, I'll try the RCM 8". I might get the accuracy I am looking for. The suppressor is a second priority.

I fire out of my G36C all the time with suppressor. No problems so far and it has the same barrel length.

I have since changed the stock to a Magpul and probably going to change optic to Leupold 2.5x8 power (can't remember exact model #). I hog hunt with this and use YHM supressor as well. One of my transferable sears is installed in the SG1 lower, so the trigger is incredible.

I didn't see where this has been asked, but what bullet weight were you using when they "cartwheeled"?

I used the 62gr Nato and some 55gr Federal Blue box. The 62 tumbles but with the 55 I still don't get a good group. I'll try the 7:1 barrel and see how that works. As for a suppressor I might just get the YHM for the 7.62.
