According to the date code, my HK91 was made in 1981. The rollmark on the receiver says "Made in Germany". I don't doubt the authenticity of the rifle but I'm wondering: Why doesn't it say "West Germany"? The Berlin Wall didn't come down until 1989 and reunification was a year later.

Who knows? Why didn't they blue them? My old company I used to work for has been sold and went through several name changes... I and all my friends still refer to it as New Departure or New Departure Hyatt Bearings. I imagine something similar went through their minds.

I've had 3 HK 91's...all IB (1981) date codes. They all just said "Germany." My SR9's that were from 1990 said W. Germany. Don't sweat it.
