hey all i have a 93 i want to use as a host .whats the best way to go, get the semi auto welded up or buy one already done?
who would you recomend for welding? or where to buy an already welded one

Personally I would rather have a factory full auto carrier. Problem is if you get one it may or may not change the bolt gap i n your rifle. By just welding the one you have it will not change the bolt gap. Jayson @ IGF or Ralph @ RDTS can weld it for you.

I went and purchased a factory 33 carrier for mine so that I could keep all of the date coded original parts tucked away.

If I ever decided to sell the weapon in the future I would be able to put it back to stock and get the most return out of it verses finding a buyer willing to purchase it being modified or altered.

Hey everyone, I'm fairly new to the HK33/93 arena. As an avid admirer of "classic" military firearms I'm thinking one of these will be my next build.

My understanding is that it is prohibited to convert a semi-only firearm to F/A. So what would be the point in installing a F/A carrier in the 93? Isn't the 93 the semi-only variant of the 33? I was wanting to covert my SL8/G36 to F/A but was informed by the ATF that this was illegal. Wouldn't this apply to an HK93 receiver as well?

My primary reason for asking is that I would like to do the build with as many genuine HK parts as possible... most importantly the receiver. To do a F/A rifle, I would need to purchase a pre-1986 registered HK33 receiver which I would imagine would command a steep price.

Anyways, is the HK33/93 noob (me) missing something here?

If your 93 is an authentic original HK and not a clone, I would agree that you should save the original carrier which will have the right date code for the gun if you can afford to. Check Adam Weber (HKparts.net) or Gordon Miller (HKSpecialist) for a HK33 (full auto HK93) carrier and locking piece. If you decide to weld it instead, I see you are here in AZ, Call Ralph at RDTS, he's been doing that modification for 25+ years.

My two cents is that if you are going to fire it, have it welded. Contact Craig Froman at M-F Firearms, he's Colt_Model_01 on HKPRO, always an excellent job. You can always buy a virgin bolt in the future if you desire.

He's going to use the '93 as a host for an HK sear, not a registered reciever.

Thanks Chef! As I've been reading up on the topic, I learning (hopefully I'm correct) that you can use a semi-auto receiver as the "host" for a regsitered auto-sear... and that assembly is legal getting around what I was told by the ATF that you can not assemble a F/A rifle with a receiver that wasn't registerd as F/A prior to '86.
