Hi all, I'm new here and eager to learn. Before anyone warns me about the illegality of converting a gun to full auto, I'll mention that I'm an 02 FFL/SOT so we're good to go there.

I've never messed with HK's or MP5's before, so please forgive the noob questions.

I'm looking to buy the Omega MP5k that Atlantic Firearms sells (Shipping Pistols : Omega 9mm K Style Pistol) and convert it to full auto. I'm reading stuff about push-pin lowers and clipped-and-pinned lowers and SEF packs and really don't quite have a good grasp on what's what yet. I'm beginning to understand that US-made HK's have a shelf while the overseas-made guns have true push-pins but have a tab on the receiver along with other non-FA compatible parts in them.

A fellow 02 FFL/SOT told me to stick with a US-made MP5 (such as the Omega) so that I can avoid modifying the receiver-side of the gun, thereby permanently making it into a machine gun. I stopped considering the POF 5PK after realizing this. So, assuming I start with the Omega (which is advertised as sear-ready), what exactly will I have to buy or do to the trigger group side to activate the fun switch?

Go easy on me! :68:

I can give you a few thoughts and some of our more experienced members can add in. First of all, welcome to HKPro. This has proved to be a great learning opportunity for me and hope you have the same result. I would recommend buying a Premium membership but you can start without it and see if the value is there fore you.

Clipped & Pinned (aka Shelf) vs. Double Push Pin
This was a design difference to satisfy ATF that folks couldn't easily convert Title 1 semi-auto guns into Title 2 full-auto action. The original HK roller locked machine guns used two push pins to locate the trigger pack. The Title 1 design change was to eliminate the front push pin and instead weld in a shelf into the receiver that the front of the trigger housing sits on. This shelf prevents a FA pack from being installed. The Clipped & Pinned part refers to modifying a double push pin housing to fit onto the shelf and then glueing on push pin ends to each side to give the appearance of a front push pin. This works because the FA metal trigger pack 'box' still interferes with the shelf.

FA with a Shelf
A popular way to go FA with a Title 1 gun is to buy a registered 'sear' or 'box'. The sear is a special component added to a semi pack to perform the FA function. And the semi box fits the front shelf. The registered box is basically a FA pack where the front part of the box was cut away to fit the shelf but the internal parts are stock HK FA. Here, of course, we are talking about transferable stuff that was put into the registry before it was closed in May, 1986. As a 02 FFL/SOT you would have other options available to you that I am not knowledgable about.

In my case as a non 02FFL/SOT I bought a registered DLO box and have generally had German made Title 1 guns made into 'hosts' by a specialist builder. These guns ended up being registered as SBRs so they can be shot as semi-auto without the box at ranges that are not FA friendly. Hence a SP89 became a MP5K, a HK94 a MP5, a HK93 a HK53, and a HK93 a HK33K. All are SBR'd but all can accept the DLO pack too. It's a great gig albeit a pricey one. Sorry I can't help you on the Omega part...

One more thought - support the NRA and the NFATCA as they support our rights in this area. Straightgrain can hook you up on the NFATCA part. You probably knew this already but I felt compelled to put a plug in. Our Nov 8 near miss still has me spooked...

Hmm. Wasn't there a similar post from another "02 FFL/SOT" a little while back? I find this coincidence very unusual.

FIRST Welcome to HKPRO!!

SECOND You will only most likely be much better off getting this information through private messages with other manufacturers on this forum as I don't think most would feel comfortable discussing that kind of information on how to convert an MP5 variant to full auto on the open forums let alone with a new member whose first question is about building a post sample. I think we even have rules against posting this information on the open forums. You would probably need to become friendly with one or several of the many 02/07's on this forum and provide proof of your 02/07 before they would be willing to even discuss how to do the conversion with you!! This is Just friendly information and if I'm out of line and not correct in saying so, one of the mods will chime in and correct me.

This kind of information posted on an open board can be viewed by outside people and used in illegal conversions.

Anytime I see these kind of posts it raises red flags for me however, I'll approach it with giving the person the benefit of the doubt to explain that it is not the right way to go about asking this kind of information. Yeah, most manufacturers I know will not discuss this information with anyone they do not know very well.. They don't want to be inadvertently helping the wrong people get ahold of FA to commit some heinous act!!

Not to mention your first post is going to be asking how to convert an MP five to a machine gun yeah I don't think anyone's gonna give much information out.

02 FFL even with an SOT cannot MFG firearms. So "you're NOT good to go there". Sorry.
while i'm not an expert on the various levels, i always thought an 07 SOT was the only one that could manufacture FA firearms and then only under certain circumstances. not just because you want one. i may be wrong though.

Even if so, information is not illegal.

And as a non FFL/SOT, I enjoy reading about this type of information, and realize the legal consequences of applying such information to live acts, and as a result, refrain from exercising my rights of doing so.

Instead, I'm saving up for a transferable (non-HK due to the expense)

Correct! I too do not know the exact type or level, but indeed there is a type of FFL that can make posties without love letters.

You have no right to make full auto weapon, without the proper legal authority.
I believe 922(o) is a violation of the 2nd amendment, and there for, a violation of our rights to keep and bear arms (HK machine guns)

While I believe we have every right to make a full auto weapon, I understand one cannot do so legally at this point, so saving up for a transferable machine gun like a nice subject to tyranny is what I'm going to do.

Haha, you guys are funny, but I don't blame you for being suspicious. I fully expected some razzing and doubts about my FFL/SOT status given it was my first post on the site. But I am genuinely an 07/02... my first three last five is 6-04 and 13163. Shop is called Odyssey Arms in Lawrence, MA.

It's all good though. Noobs deserve a little ribbing. Thanks to Player_To_Be_Named for the bit of help, it's appreciated. I'll ping my friend for help; I just figured the expertise on HKPro was worth consulting too.

No offense but anyone can google and get most FFL numbers off the web.
