Both my SP 89 and HK 93, have nice finishes on them, espescially the SP 89, and I want to keep them that way, so when I do normal cleaning of the weapons, I shy away from some of the best, most potent cleaners, for fear of damaging the finish of the exterior. Not that I would use bore cleaner on the exterior finish of my guns, but I always seem to slop, spash, or spill some anyway. Is this fear warrented? Also, what is the best way to care for and clean the exterior of gun when needed, and what to use for normal wipeing down dust and fingerprints?

I'll second the Barricade; Hoppe's #9 works well, too. Just remember to wipe down with a silicone cloth once you're done.
