looks like a P9k or short version to me.

too short to be a P9s. But the shape of the trigger gaurd is a give away.

ETA

the P9k wasn't ever made anything more than a prototype, so its not exactly a 'real' gun, just a prototype version.

There was a funky "caseless" rifle at the beginning. I always thought it was an HK, but it probably was a Walther now that I think about it.

I'm sticking with a P9s

the P9k was a prototype, and the picture has the correct magazine release.
it's more likely, way more likely, it's a p9s

adn the Sniper rifle Bond uses in the begining is a Walther WA2000

while I don't remember any HK's being in the film...
In the opening pre-credit sequence during the skydiving Rock of Gibralter infiltration scene, the enemy agent who was posed on the rock to kill the 00's used a HK P9S with supressor. He tried shooting 007 through the convertible top before Bond drove the jeep off the cliff into space, parachuting to safety before the explosives in the back blew.

The assassin had a P9S as you rightly said, KJacques.
The 'SAS' Soldiers had MP5s, the first time HKs appeared in a Bond film I believe... I dont remember any appearing in films previous to The Living Daylights.

Personally I think that The Living Daylights is the best bond film (along with Casino Royale maybe) and it definately has the best music! Where has Everybody Gone by the Pretenders is an 80s classic!

I can't recall HK in any of the previous films, but after The Living Daylights there were a few...I remember the assassins P7 that Bond turned on it's user, killing him from The World is Not Enough. I noticed several in Casino Royale including the USP compact the "freerunner" used and threw at Bond's head and the bad buy's P2000 in the bathroom pre-credits scene. Not to mention the UMP at the end.

But I agree that Living Daylights remains one of my still favorite movies and music scores.

Actually, all of the bad guys in the final scene of "Never Say Never Again" use MP5A3s with straight mags, but since that's not an "official" Bond movie, I guess it's debatable whether or not it's relevant.

The scene with the P7 you are referring to is from "Tomorrow Never Dies".

Lessee, if memory serves corrctly, there were MP5s in Never Say Never Again, License to Kill, Tomorrow Never Dies. By the way, anyone check to see if the pistol in the Living Daylights poster was a Walther P5???

It's not a P5 on the Living Daylights poster, although the Walther P5 was featured prominently on the poster for Never Say Never Again. The P5 was also used in Octopussy. Both films from 1983.
