Y'all know how it works: hard to find, when you do they're asking $3k. when I saw this guy pop up on Armslist for a *much* better price I picked up the phone. "lost the box in cleaning the car x months ago" so only the gun and a mag, a little rough but given the price...

It was more than a little bedraggled and neglected when I got it, from the brief conversation with the seller and taking it apart, I'm guessing it got a quick bore-brushing and external wipe-down when it looked like it needed it. Everything was gritty and dry. so of course first thing I do when I get home is pop off the slide and grips and scrub it down till it shines with a plastic brush then lube it up. Like a whole new gun. The good news is the gunk must have held just enough oil to kept the innards from rusting or wearing much.

It cleaned up pretty nice but it'll be a good candidate for a full refinishing in the not-too-distant future.

Now to wait for a nice day to get pics with my bike. BMW R1200C. Oddballs but better that way.

Very nice! Who needs the stupid box anyway, it belongs in a holster or in your hand. Especially if it was neglected, it should make a pilgrimage to Teufelshund Tactical. James (Marine0303 here) is a certified HK armorer and a specialist when it comes to P7s. He'll completely disassemble it, clean it like it's never been cleaned, make sure all the parts are functioning and in spec and return it to you like brand new. The biggest cost is shipping and he usually turns it around next day. Can't beat it and every old P7 deserves it. He can even send it along to whatever re-finisher you like and have them return it to him to make sure it was reassembled correctly.

just an opinion, keep it original - it gives it character
I couldn't agree more. Keep her just the way she is and give her some more character! Congrats on you're P7!

Oh, HECK yeah! Glad to hear ya stole it. I'd love to find one like that for a great price. Right after making sure the barrel and gas system is good, I'd definitely do something radical on a refinish, and Nils grips. I love Nils grips. :) Conga Rats!

thanks for the kudos all. Yes, the plan is to carry it as-is for a while, refinishing, if it occurs, is a year or 3 off. Have yet to get a hole of James. Hopefully I can make it to the range today, conditions have conspired to keep me away the last several days.
