Is there any undue wear or stress put a USP SD (non-LEM) if stored for extended period of times with the slide back & locked; so, for example, one could use the H&K-provided shotlock as a safety device? I think logic would say that doing this would put unnatural amounts of force on the slide/spring while in storage, which could lead to problems down the road. Am I thinking wrong?

BTW, this post is not about alternate locking/storage solutions, just a question purely about the long-term effects of storing the gun in this state.

Unfortunately, there are LOTS of juvenile mindless arguments on here whenever the topic of spring-wear comes up. There is a rather large faction who insists that the ONLY way a spring can possibly be affected is through cycling and not from long-term compression. Hopefully, this thread will die a peaceful death before that whole conflagration begins. You might be better served by asking for opinions on this topic through PMs.

Last time we had one of these discussions, IIRC it was agreed upon that springs either need to be fully compressed, or completely unloaded of pressure to mantain proper function and durability.
