Locking Piece-Comparison Measurements Needed

Thanks! Looks like my Coharie locking piece is not wide enough as I suspected.

Do you think that .010" could really be an issue? Is there a problem with the function or are you just concerned about fit? Every manufacturing op has tolerances. That goes for both the LP width and the bolt head slot. LOTD determines whether you get a combination that is tight but still functional or loose but still functional.

My LP measures 14.76 and the image you provided shows a spec width of 14.99. This shows my LP to be off by .23 (too narrow).

My gun functioned fine most of the time with my MIM bolt head but the fit to the locking piece was sloppy. I assumed the left/right play of my MIM bolt head may have been a contributing cause to an occasional FTE. I was surprised to find that my new RCM bolt head had the same sloppy fit.

Now, I am confident that my Coharie LP is a little too narrow and thus causing the left/right play.

Do you think my LP being off by .23 is anything to be concerned with?

.23mm = .009" for those old guy like me that still think in "normal".:wink:

I find it hard to believe that that amount would have any bearing at all on a FTE but who knows?

Do you have trouble keeping batteries in that caliper? Mine seems to eat them up alarmingly fast.

Only the good (supposedly) batteries for me... it's those cheap, knock-off Chinese calipers that get me every time! I'm thinkin' the Zips are making more money off me on the batteries than the tools.
