I've been cruising this Forum and finding a ton of information on my options as far as a MP5K clone pistol is concerned. You guys rock and this is definitely the place to be. I was originally looking at the HK SP5K, but then I found that it doesn't come with a threaded barrel and/or 3-lug option for my SilencerCo Omega 9K suppressor. Yes, I know I can get a different aftermarket barrel, but after spending that much money I should have what I want out of the box. So...that takes me to the clone options. What is the closest I can get to the HK SP5K (in quality/reliability)? This will be running suppressed 100% of the time.

I've heard of offerings from companies such as Zenith MKE, POF, Dakota, PTR, Brethren, Parabellum Combat Systems (Ghilliebear), and the Omega from Atlantic Firearms (please let me know if I'm missing any). I've been leaning towards the Omega OM9 K from Atlantic Firearms, but wanted to get opinions of others who are much more knowledgeable about the clones than I. I read in another thread that **some** folks were having extraction issues with the Omega from Atlantic, but it's hard to tell if there is an issue there. They seem to back their products 100% and have excellent customer service (from what I can tell).

On a side note, I was also interested in the Omega SD Barreled Upper Receiver, but wasn't sure if my Omega 9K suppressor would work with it. I know it will fit inside, but wasn't sure if any special adapters/modification would be needed since it is a modern suppressor.

Buy once cry once. If you are set on an MP5k get the SP5k. This is a rare opportunity to buy a factory offering again. You will spend nearly as much on the clone with none of the reliability, warranty, or resale value.

That horrible looking extended handguard... Can it be replaced by a normal length?

Since I would be forced to replace the heart and soul of this pistol (the barrel), would whatever replacement barrel be lesser quantity than the factory HK barrel? Which brand is recommended?

I say you do little reading up on roller locked clones first: http://www.hkpro.com/forum/dakota-tactical/158967-roller-lock-buyer-s-guide-pictorial.html

SP5K is great, but only if you want it as is. Also, I wouldn't be so easily convinced that a $400 B&T barrel in the way to go. A RCM barrel is half that amount and the quality is there.

Honestly you read as if you're looking for an "as-is" gun at an affordable price. I say go with Zenith MKE and reading up on that thread I linked above will help.

B&T is too expensive, pay way less than half and get the RCM barrel. It's cheap comparatively and I think as good or better than HK. $400 for a barrel is crazy.

If that's a little too rich for your blood, you might want to contact Mike of Michael's Machine. He has his own barrels that many on this site are very happy with.
I've got one of Mike's 3-lug barrels. His price included installation and it was less than a B&T by itself.

And, factory HK barrel now resides in the "box of misfit toys".

I am curious what you will decide. I bought mine before the SP5K came out and went with MKE. It was a little grumpy first time out but since then it has been 100% for around 3000 rounds so I have been happy with it. Now that the SP5K is out I am not sure what I would do. I really like the idea of having an HK but I want to run my suppressors and the mag release is a must have. If I had those two things added, then I assume the firearm would no longer be warrantied by HK, though maybe it would be by whoever did the work if I used one of the vendors here. So I would have to spend around $1000 more, get a less clear warranty, and in the end would still not have a real HK. Not saying I won't do that at some point, bonus time is coming up so maybe I will get one made up. But with the MKE running fine and with their great customer service, they are not a bad way to go for the money.

Most important thing is to get into the game somehow! It is just too much fun. :)

This was my debate as well. I'd love to have bought the SP5K but the amount of money I'd have tied up in it to get it where I wanted would be significant. Plus it's no longer "original" and with the idea of SBR'ing it it'll have my name engraved anyway. I decided to get the Z5P which I hope to pick up today and put the leftover money towards some mods.

Why is the paddle mag release a must have when running a suppressor? I'm going to be running suppressed 100% of the time.

I'm digging deeper into the Omega offered by Atlantic Tactical. It's definitely the cheaper offering and comes with everything I need and want.
