Mark 23 differences between 1996-2011?

Alright, the two HKs I want are apparently a PSG1 and MARK 23.

I don't have the money for the PSG-1

I do have the money for a new MARK 23

Instead of buying some random new one my FFL can get, I assume they are all good, but, I have to ask, what are the diffences between years and which year should I get over another year/model if any?

The biggest difference seems to be that the older models retain the Maritime finish. My BA datecode model lacks this feature and instead has a matte painted finish atop the HE finish. If you want the maritime get it. If not, I dont believe you are missing out on anything. I am not sure when the maritime finish was taken out of production but it will have a distinct glossy appearance. Hope this helps.
The earlier guns had the HK logo engraved on the frame instead of laser etched like all the new HK guns. Not sure if that's important to you or not. Other than the martime finish I don't think you're missing anything. Mine is a BA like HecklerundSauer has, I did not get the Martime finish. It's shame HK changed that along the line.
Based upon the information that I have:

Serial numbers

1. 4-digit (96-98)
2. 6-digit (99-11)

Slide Markings

1. Mark 23 (96/210X through 277X)
2. MARK 23 (96-11)
3. "Gold" HK wJS (in circle)(04-05)
4. "Heckler & Koch" on right slide (early 04- late 05)- there are blocks within that period that have no mark on right slide
5. "DE" (08-11)

Finishes

1. Maritime/high gloss (96-early 04)
2. HE/flat (mid-04 -11)

Cases

1. Camo cloth (96- early 04)
2. European (97-99)

- early (gold aluminum case/fake wood outer inserts/"HK" logo in red on front/foam inner inserts/2 keys)--- CCF imported @ 100
- later (brushed silver aluminum case/ black outer inserts/"HK" logo in red on front/foam inner inersts/2 keys)

3. Black cloth (mid-04- early 06)
4. Tan cloth (early 04- late 05)- 1 of 500 tan frame
5. Black plastic (mid-06- 11)

Lockout Device

1. None (96-98)
2. Incorporated (99-11)

From a collector's standpoint, the 96/KG with combination of "Mark 23", camo cloth case and no "lockout device" is most desireable.
From a shooter's standpoint, any model.

Thank you for your kind words!!!
A fellow member here was kind enough to PM me on Mark 23's with the gray cloth cases.
I realize that the earlier tacticals came with the gray cloth cases. :43:
However, I am wondering if HK utilized the gray cloth cases for the Mark 23's (e.g., between camo/black cloth).
Anyone have any further information on the gray cloth cases?

AGG as always you are very helpful, how much should a normal new MARK 23 cost me, my ffl is offering 1825+ shipping.

Then how much is a Mark 23 worth, and how hard would it be to track down/price?
If you want a new one, you'll likely pay between 1800-2200. I saw a new unfired early MARK23 in camp case go for 2500.00 on another board...

Edit: camo case. Stinkin auto correct pisses me off....

You are very welcome!!!
If you are just wanting a shooter, $1,600.00- $1,700.00 would be about right.
NIB will be around $1,850.00- $2,150.00.

Thanks for the compliment--- when it comes to some things, but not to all things!!!

So, I was reading the thread about the Expert/Tactical "cloth" cases--- both seemed to have come with either the black or gray cloth cases!!!
Where do the gray cloth cases fit in with the Mark 23's--- add on?

Tony
IDK but I want one now.
