My unabashed $0.02
I liked the Medal of Honor 2010 reboot. It felt different than mowing down wave after wave of insta-spawn bad guys. Rich scenery, vivid weapon detail and a deviation from the cartoonish feel of other FPS's more than made up for the relatively short single-player campaign. Plus the story line was supposed to mirror the first parts of the war in Afg, which made it a little more interesting.
Following this, folks were treated to a back-to-back dose of nearly identical storylines of global terror plots in MW3 and Battlefield 3.
Now there's MOH: Warfighter. I have to say I was somewhat disappointed. I had heard Larry Vickers was involved with this early on, I saw the 3-part episodes where developers were shooting Larry's guns and striving for realism. I saw the gun lineup on IMFDB, and thought this was going to be really cool considering they are involving other special forces and storylines.
My expectations were not met. Not even close.
For some reason they felt the need to cram driving levels into the game...more than one. I still don't get why...maybe they needed filler for an equally short storyline. A lot of the guns I was expecting to see aren't in the single player campaign. And if you believe you'll be playing missions as GROM or SAS, you're in for disappointment. GROM makes a brief appearance in the storyline, but the only time you can play "as" anyone but one of the 2 or 3 SEAL characters is in Online play and then it doesn't really matter.
Tater pretty much hit the nail on the head. Obviously Online play is the primary focus as all of the weapon offerings and configurations are here. Right down to whether you use a PMag, GI, or GI w/tape or magpul...some of the details are scary real. I wish I could comment more about the weapon offerings, but I refuse to endure it long enough to get anything unlocked much less get "progess" (kill) unlocks. I gave it a chance, but spending 1/2 the time watching the respawn counter, I said
[email protected]# it.
Some of the individual missions are neat (SEAL/pirate lifeboat standoff for example), but the overall storyline is YET ANOTHER convoluted global terror plot. In between we are treated to excessively long cut scenes that try way too hard to be "Act of Valor". Despite some of the changes, they kept the excessively linear game play (must take the intended path) and the computer "auto pilot" taking control at random points in gameplay. Finally, if you LOVE breaching...you're in for a treat. The first 5 or 6 times it's neat, but it gets old QUICK. You also get to unlock 6 or 7 different breach methods...all of which are slower than molasses.
Not to end on a bad note, I like their take on battlefield pickups. Pick up an AK and if it runs completely dry, it automatically gets chucked. You can also chuck it at any point and go back to your primary kit.
