Does anyone have experiences with different caliber uppers on an MR223A3?

In NL, I am limited in the number of firearms I can own (5), but I can have any number of uppers for a single, registered lower. Specifically, I will be considering a .22, 7.62x39 and perhaps a 9mm upper.

aehm i don't know if the mr223 a3 lower is compatible with a standard ar15 upper - you might have to ask HK directly or somebody from europe who knows that - i just read that on some versions of the mr556/mr223 the pinhole placements are different than on standard ar15 lowers - some brands in europe like DAR offer compatible uppers - but i'm not 100 % sure on that

My mr223a3 lower fits on normal AR15 uppers. I did not shoot it, but from a design perspective it fits and dry-fires hus suggesting it should be ok for other AR15 uppers in diff. Calibers?

I think it's the MR762 and/or 308 that is not compatible with alternate lowers.

MR223A3 is compatible with any AR15 pattern upper. For some upper maybe lighter recoil spring and buffer will be needed, but that is all.

At a minimum I will want a .22 upper, but I'm hoping for more flexibility than that. Maybe Sig will help out with more MCX uppers ...

I'm also based in NL and would like to know if you ever bought yourself a .22 or 9mm upper and how it all went?

My next rifle will be an MR223 if it's possible to get a .22 and/or 9mm upper fitted to it, otherwise I need to look for an AR15 I guess.

Not sure if the MR223 is different, but one of the great things about AR's in general is the ability to swap out uppers and essentially get an entirely different rifle. .22 upper is great as a trainer. Cheap ammo and no recoil. I have a 7.62 x 39 upper as well. Nice blaster. I use mostly cheap steel cased ammo, so it's not as accurate as 5.56, but still a ton of fun to shoot. If you are looking to shoot longer distances, the 6.5 grendel in a great round. Not sure what the laws are in NL, but if you can have a suppressor, 300 Blackout is definitely something you should consider as the subsonic rounds work great with a suppressor.

Ultimately, what direction you go with additional uppers all depends on what type of shooting you want to do.

Probably the fastest way to egg-out lower pin holes and deadline a lower receiver is to put in a blow-back action .22lr or 9mm upper receiver.

No idea if that kind of thing matters to you guys in Europe and replacement parts and which part is regulated/classified as the "firearm" in your respective nation

Here, with MR556 lowers fetching $1400+ dollars...it's stupid (just putting this out there for the local boys).

I have not tried different uppers, and with this information I am reconsidering. The lower is the registered piece in the Netherlands.

Wlevels, I waited about 15 months for my 14.5 inch MR223A3 to arrive after ordering. I hope you’re patient!

I had one of these for about 2 years and many thousands of rounds. I ran about 12k rounds through it before its first cleaning and was impressed with its reliability, only failing to fire because of bads round (as we have all seen with .22). After that I started feeling guilty about letting such a fun piece get so dirty. The first cleaning was not much fun, as you can imagine. It ran beautifully for the years that I had it and I have fond memories of our time together.

Unfortunately, the Dutch limit to 5 firearms convinced me to sell it, resulting in my original question about different uppers which I can have because the lower is the registered, and therefore limiting, piece.
