MSG90A1 build questions

I am gathering the last few HK pieces and parts for an MSG90A1 build and have a few questions for you all. I have searched through the old threads and haven’t found anything recent so I apologize if you’ve heard these questions all before.

Builders: I’ve heard names Urbach, Dyer and RDTS recommended. Any Pros/Cons to any of these builders? Is Terry Dyer still taking conversion/build work (saw in a few of the posts that he was not, but those are all old posts)? Does anyone have contact info for Terry Dyer? Can anyone recommend another builder who could do an MSG90A1 build?

Host receiver: Will any of the above builders work on a bent flat or do I have to sacrifice an HK91 rifle? I know, someone’s gonna say why would I spend all the money on the MSG90A1 parts to have it built on a flat. What was an HKG3/91 before it was a finished receiver… and any markings the Hk91 had will be replaced with new MSG90A1 markings so no one will ever know that it started life as an HK91 anyway.

Markings: I assume the above builders will remark the rifle with the appropriate MSG90A1 markings. Can this be done to replicate the HK factory stamped markings, or will I get MSG90A1 markings that are engraved and are not quite like the original stamped markings?

Thanks much in advance.

Jason at IGF did mine….
He quoted several months, but met his timeline. His work is top notch, and I would recommend him without reservation. I regret that I did not get more of a pure MSG-90 as I did not get the forward assist installed. I will see if I can get some pix up in the next couple of days.. I went with an Urbach Barrel. Every smith mentioned so far is known for quality, however, some have very long lead times. I used TSC Machine to work on a trigger pack and they were very quick, extremely pleasant to deal with and the pack works 100%… I have seen some of this builds up close and they are excellent..

Yes, it is a very deep rabbit hole. Some people want functional and some people want one as close as possible to the original. All the above mentioned are good builders, i would also recommend Ghilliebear and TPM Outfitters, Michaels Machines and TSC. There are plenty to choose from. Good Luck, Mine will be finished one of the days. Good Luck!!

Thanks for the info guys. I have a list of manufacturers and will hit some of them up with questions.

hk21man, PM sent to you.

My goal is a factory correct MSG90A1. BTW anyone have pics of the magwell markings on an MSG90A1? All I have seen are markings for the standard MSG90 rifle. Still working on getting the last few correct parts for this build (bolt/carrier and forward assist).

I have a MSG-90 Lothar Walther Barrel from HKParts (https://www.hkparts.net/shop/pc/MSG-90-Lothar-Walther-Barrel-9p1511.htm). Anyone have knowledge on how the contour of these compares to an actual MSG90A1? Any info/reviews on accuracy?

Is there any possibility of getting a factory HK forward assist, or is a US manufactured version my only hope? Does it make sense to but the factory HK forward assist button (HKParts or HK Specialist) and use the case from a US manufactured MSG forward assist, or just purchase the entire US manufactured MSG forward assist assembly? Any differences in function or appearance?

Thanks much.

Barrels are visually / concept close but are not right. The Urbach's were also not correct - Murray was rumored to have scaled the dimension from a factory picture. MM has a few factory bbls that I believe is what he has duplicated his from. Other than that the Lothar Walther shoot well but get hot quick and accuracy suffered from my experience with one in a clone build.
Both MM and Beltfed Precision make Forward Assist copies (near if not identical to factory) that would be fine additions to the build and not require you to mix mash parts. I have Mikes on my MSG90 and PSG1-K guns and they are really nice. I have a few of BPP on E builds.
