My SL8-1/G36 Conversion with G36C rail and G36K forearm with picatinny rails

I just swapped out my dual optic with a G36C sight rail and the older G36K forearm with the newer one with heat shield that accepts picatinny rails.

My long term goal with this rifle, is when Michigan allows SBRs (I'm praying) I will pop a real G36K barrel in and have someone here do the proper G36 stock plastic welding job.

I had to widen the heat shield inside of the forearm in order to fit the SL8 barrel because of the thicker gas block. It's a snug fit for now.

I can't wait to shoot her in this configuration!

Is that a real g36 magazine? I have been contemplating doing what you have done to my SL8, but am concerned about the quality of work. Where did you get your parts and work done? BTW looks very nice!
Check out post here on the forum reference converting SL-8's to G36. Joe and Tom do these conversions and when their done it is damn hard to tell the difference from a real G36. Also welcome to the forum.

Thanks! Yes, it's a MagPul PMAG made for use in the G36. It counts as 3 US made 922r compliance parts which is why I have them. They work wonderfully. I bought the rifle with most of the work done, so I'm not sure who converted it. All I did was add the HDPS aluminum stock block, G36C stock, and the FBI lower which HDPS prepared to fit into the rifle. I buy most of my parts from members here and from HKParts.net.

I highly recommend you follow frogman342's advice and go for the full conversion Joe and Tom offer. They look amazing! I can't go that route unless I pop a longer barrel in mine because in my state if the rifle measures under 26" with the stock folded in, I'm guilty of a state felony because MI would consider it an SBR. Michigan is not an SBR friendly state right now, so there is no way around that, unfortunately.
I happen to live only about 45 minutes from HDPS, so I may take a trip down there and see what they have/can do.

That is pretty convenient, he was prompt with me with work and shipping and such. I do not think he does the plastic welding rear section type mods Tom and Joe do though. He just has his aluminum stock blocks.

Looks good! Congrats! Always good to hear from members in Michigan!
Thanks everyone! I'm already having a great time here.

Thanks! After I save up the funds I'd love to drop her off to your shop for a proper conversion with a demilled rear stub. Hopefully by then Michigan will be an SBR friendly state so she can have a G36K lengh barrel without a permanent extension.
