I removed my cocking handle and cocking support piece to replace with a factory support piece and an extended cocking handle. Installed the spring and handle in the support piece and then tried to punch the axle pin in from the underside of the cocking tube - just ended up just scratching the finish with the pin still sticking out the bottom of the tube (won't go in all the way). The cocking handle axle pin that came with the pistol has a stepped end, but the ones listed on HKParts are straight.

Should I be trying to install the pin from the top instead of the bottom? Should I get a straight pin from HKParts? Please help!

i have always put them in from the top. i feel its easier to handle and keep things from moving around while working on it. all the ones i have done were straight, never say a stepped one (not that they dont exist, i just havent seen one). you you sure its stepped and not fubared?

Yes, they install from the top.
