So I recently got an Elcan M145 MGO to go on top of my G3. This scope was intended for the US M240, and I have it sitting on a low-profile B&T rail on the G3. As you can see from the pictures, I have the scope as far back as I can get it before the rear diopter stops it. This is workable, but I would really like to get it back another inch or so to make my cheek weld with that PRS stock work nicely, and I can only do this by removing the rear sight. That of course leaves me without irons. I've looked around for any possible flip-up type sites that will fit in the HK rear-site fitting, but have found nothing. Ideas, anyone?

I am not going with a Hensoldt on a claw mount or a claw-mounted anything. The entire reason I went with a rail on top was for the flexibility of being able to use a wide range of optics for this weapon. Second, this is not for semiautomatic fire. I got the Elcan because I have been looking for something that fits the role of a Machine Gun Optic to be used for fully automatic fire and the Elcan seemed really well suited to this. I don't know if I want to tie up $1800+ in an ACOG TA648 and the Elcan was a good deal so I am trying to make that work. Besides, I think a 3.4x optic may be better than a 6x for this purpose.

Second, yes, that PRS stock is a great stock for precision fire. It also happens to be a hell of a stock for a machine gun; better than the clubfoot stock that I have, and it allows proper cheek rest for the use of optics.

The whole reason I am doing this is to kind of update my G3 with some more modern features. I thought perhaps someone here had run across the same issue and had come up with a creative solution that retained the backup irons. If this were not a German Hk91 I would mill off that rear site block, weld rail all the way back to the stock, install some backup irons on the rail and put the optic where I want it.
