I would personally move on. If they can't make it right the second time, then they shouldn't be in business and the weapon becomes a liability and you negligent. Just one person's opinion. Hope it works out.

All in all, a cheap learning experience. I would never, ever...ever recommend a trigger job on my/any CCW weapon.
facepalm.

I understand his reaction, this has been a bad experience and it's tough sometimes to keep it in perspective. Hopefully he gets it right and if he tries again, it'll be with a top shelf smith.

I would note that I would cut my losses and send it directly back to HK.

Just had an idea, see if everything feels right with the decocker as far as it being spring loaded. if the decocker isnt resting naturally(ie always depressed) the hammer will always slam home when the slide goes back. When the hammer follows the slide back im assuming that it would be slamming to the "half cocked" position and not all the way.

That sound like it could be it?

TGS,

To me, it's more of the legal ramifications of having a worked trigger on a gun that I may have to take a life with. I don't plan on giving the prosecution any ammo...IF it ever came to that. Its the same reason I don't carry reloads for self defense.

Just my opinion...to those that choose to, more power to em. America is all about personal choices...

Ladies and gentlemen, the best HK trigger guard is running a couple thousand rounds through it.

I'm sorry for the pain in the neck, I hope all is resolved. This thread definitely made me rethink any potential trigger job ambitions.

...good luck with gettin' her running again. IMO it is pretty "stand up" what you did with not mentioning the name of the gunsmith. Thinking about it more...the internet is the internet...or the errornet - and there is a lot of garbage flying around. If those really want to know - they'll PM you. With that said though, I think the best course of action is back to HK.

'Hammer Follow' is a very dangerous condition for any firearm to be experiencing, get it repaired correctly no matter what the cost
This no doubt!!

I agree with gt and other's! If you were taking a poll. Sending back to HK on the guy's dime who messed the gun up 2x so far would win in a landslide. There is no way he would touch my gun again. Gun's can be fixed but trust in it without a HK trip that's the Biggest concern i would have...

I agree with this. There is a lot of crap flying around on the net and too often negative opinions get out of hand. The OP is sharing with anyone who asks directly, so he is being very fair.

My two cents is also to send back to HK so it can be returned to factory spec. Only then would I trust it, even if it's meant to be range gun.

The smith is going to send me the part he thinks is the problem with directions to install. I'm cool with this because the best case is that it fixes the problem 100% and get me more familiar with my pistol. Worst case is that I send HK a box of parts because I can't figure how to put her back together again...maybe it'll be cheaper by saving them some breakdown time!

Remember, the gun still went bang every time I pulled the trigger. The hammer would fall to the firing pin block when it did fall on its own. As a comp gun, it was just rather disconcerting to expect a SA pull and it be a DA pull. Didn't help my time nor accuracy score a bit.

I appreciate the support of the few that agree about not mentioning the smiths name publicly. Thank you.

Hopefully I'll get the part in a couple days and have a range test by the 5th.

Hater's gonna hate. I prefer the 2,000 round trigger job.
Like your style! lol… It's always been at the back of my head that my pistol might not function as its suppose to, reliable, after a trigger job. If reliability is compromised then there is no tactical advantage.

***Update***

I received a new decocker from the 'Smith. I figured out how to install it...I think...and it seems to run fine through racking the slide. I will try live fire this weekend and see how it holds up.

I didn't notice any difference between the old and new parts but I was in a hurry to get my baby fixed and didn't look real hard.

You probably wouldnt notice, if he took a couple thousands off it wont work properly. If you really want take it back out and take a caliper to it, vs the new stock one

I had a problem a while back after I asked a guy to do a trigger job on my P30. I finally sent it back to HK, at my expense, to have the gun put back to factory specs. They installed a lighter factory firing pin stop spring and that did help a little with the DA. I learned the hard way not to have work done on my HKs by anyone other than HK. Gray Guns excepted due to the stellar reviews I read everywhere with not one negative that I am aware of.
