I am trying to figure out if a USP 40 i bought has a functioning decocker. If not i need to find out what parts I need to get make it functional again.

The catch does not contact the hammer upon decocking, from the limited material i can find the catch needs to make contact to prevent discharge

You have an older-style, 1-piece catch and that is how it is supposed to be. HK changed the design to a 2-piece catch and, subsequently, released a newer-style, 2-piece catch with a longer catch. You also have the older-style hammer which works with both the 1-piece and 2-piece catch (but not the newer 2-piece catch). Are you confused yet? :)

If you want a piece of mind, replace the current 1-piece catch with the newer, 2-piece long catch + new-style hammer (one with the notch on the right side). Those would probably run you $75 in parts.
