New C308 Owner and already have a question

It only takes about a half hour to an hour at the most to modify the forearm with a dremel tool. It is super easy. Another option is to modify the Triple tree by grinding the ring off of the C308 instead of altering the forearm.

Some PTRs require a slight modification to the forearm also. I modified two wide forearms to fit Cetmes and two to fit the older JLD PTRs with the heavy barrel.

If you have a date coded expensive German forearm you could sell it and buy a POF forearm when RTG gets them back in stock.
I second this, if the forearm is a verifiable HK one then sell it for the going rate of $150 and buy a POF. No need to wait for RTG to restock as Atlantic has the wide forearms (black) in stock for $75.

As others said a bit of easy grinding on the forearm and it will fit.

Did you get the HK91 or PTR version of the Tac-Latch?

The one they said would work on HK's, PTR's, CETME and most clones.
Contrary to HK Part's listing, Tac-Latch makes a PTR specific version that requires less grinding to fit. As the area where the release fits on a PTR is slightly different then HKs.

If you could post your pics, that would be great.

From the HKParts website, it seems like you just punch out the roll pin on the mag release button, remove the mag holder, install the new one with the tac-latch and you are done.
If you are VERY lucky that is how it goes....but there is almost always some Dremeling involved.

By the way - took the gun to the range today. Took 2 types of ammo with me - Hornaday 165 gr and MagTech 150 gr. Wanted to sight in the Holosun Red Dot (2 MOA dot).

Started on the 50 yard area just to get the red-dot close. Wow - the magtech is horrible ammo. Sooty, and failed to eject every time. I ended up just putting all of it back in the bag, and only shooting hornaday. Which made for a short day, since I only brought about 50 rounds of Hornaday with me.

I was shooting 2 to 3 inch groups at 50 yards, which actually translated to 4 to 6 inch groups at 100 yards with the hornaday. Which - I think is decent for a battle rifle. I can only shoot a 2 inch group with my Ruger at 100 yards, so I'm sure some of the problem was the operator and not the rifle.

The only thing I didn't like about the rifle, besides the bad ammo, was that it's not easy to switch magazines. I'm hoping the Tac-Latch will fix that. And - I think the bipod I got is not an authentic HK bipod. It moved around a lot when I was shooting. I may have to look for a new one.

I'm very happy with the rifle though.
With a 2MOA dot it will be hard to get tighter groups as the dot itself will cover a bigger area then you are trying to hit. Red dots are great for fast shooting but not so much for tight groups. If you buy or borrow a scope (doesn't have to be expensive) with a fine crosshair and shoot some Hornady Steel Match ammo you will see your groups shrink I bet.

Even the "real" HK bipods move around. It's the nature of the beast.
