Howdy folks!

Well like the title says, I was recently gifted a PTR-91 withsome real fun add-ons. Specifically a solid bolt (versus a welded bolt) a real compensator/flash suppression and a perfectly tuned set trigger. It's also got the OD green plastics though I'd prefer an adjustable stock and a different pistol grip. As it stands, I'm in the process of adding a Vortex Crossfire II 4-16x50mm AO Riflescope using B-Square mounts and 30mm rings, all in flat black.

I hope to be poking holes in holes at 600+ yards.

Is that realistic?

For what it's worth, I'm a former Marine (550yard annual qualification) and my 1st deer kill was at 200+ yards with an inline TC muzzelloader.

The rifle is unfired and in immaculate condition.

Anyway, great board, I look forward to learning a lot.

Depending on what you mean by holes in holes. The rifle (unless you have some auto trajectory correcting magic ammo) simply isn't capable of <1" grouping at 600+ yds, very few combination of guns and ammos are. Also PTR aren't really sub-MOA guns. So I'd manage your expectation going into it.

The G3 depot repair manual says "3 shots in a 3in circle at 110 yards, 4 shots out of 7 in the same, therefore all shots should be in a 6.25" circle. "
(Dispersion grows with number of shots - my comment)
It's a durable, easy to maintain, cheap to produce, sufficiently accurate battle rifle. I agree with Caius, it's not a highly accurate bench rest gun. Where it really excels is the off hand ergonomics and balance. It's a very handy weapon. Set up some cardboard silhouette targets out at a hundred yards, you'll see what I mean.

My ptrs can shoot about 1.5 MOA shooting at 100 yards. Assuming you had the optics and shooting skills to keep the shot placement consistent at 600 yards you would be talking about a 9-10 inch 5 shot group. So it would be accurate enough to hit a silhouette but not accurate enough to look good on paper.

Congrats. Sounds like a great gun.

Now post some pictures or a link to them. It's the only way to officially announce a new gun on this board. Anything less is just insincere. After all, we can't really be completely happy for you without a little gun porn.
