I bought my P30 before the p30sk came out. I now have 2 P30sk so am thinking of trading my p30 on a p30ls. This would be a range gun only, as the sk serve as carry guns.
Is there enough difference in the accuracy of the p30 and the p30l to even consider a trade? would appreciate any feedback.

No. The difference in sight radius isn't that much, so the benefit/dollar ratio would be lousy.

I find the P30L easier to shoot accurately at ranges outside of 7 yards. IF you're looking for a range gun, the P30L is a no-brainer. The P30 is a fine weapon, and remarkably capable for its size comparatively. But the P30L, especially with the updated RSA is wonderful to shoot. Accuracy and follow up shots come easier.

I used to own both the P30 and P30L. As was mentioned, there really isn't a reason not to get the P30L assuming the price is the same and you don't plan on concealing the pistol. However, I didn't find there to be a dramatic difference between the two guns to go out of your way to making the trade. If you already have someone who is willing to make the trade with you, though, I think you should go for it.

The reason for thinking about trading; I have a Walther p99as which has 4" barrel and I bought a Magnum Research MR9 [lower is made by Walther and upper by Magnum Research] with 4.5" barrel. For some reason I shoot the 4.5" MR9 better than the 4" Walther. quite alot better. I thought the HK p30L might do the same for me. Most likely I would not be able to make a real good trade for the L. If I could I would, in a heartbeat. I do appreciate all of the feedback. Incidentally the 4.5" MR9 is one fine pistol. I am not a fan of striker fired, but this is an exception, due to the de-cocker. it acts like a hammer fired pistol.

The two guns cycle a little differently and if you're good, you'll see it. In multiple comparative assessments done by different people the results suggested that either L was a better shooting gun, by a small margin (my opinion too), or there was no difference. I don't know if anyone found 30 to be more shootable although late TLG may have.
I am personally considering to go all 30L too but I am still working on quantification of differences.

You'll notice the first example of the first generation RSA for the P30L was completely nylon, and you'll then notice in the second picture HK made second generation hybrid Nylon/metal buffer. I've found the second generation has more mass which helps keep the gun flat while shooting, and absorbs more recoil impulse. Which is why it's flatter shooting than the P30.

Why trade? Cdnn sports has a p30l in 40 cal for 599..but I'm assuming "range gun", you'll want in 9mm...but still a great deal.

Unless you roll your own... .40 can be loaded to feel softer than 9mm at the same power factor.

No Idea, second or third year the gun was on the market. All I know now is, you can only get the Gen2's from HK and other vendors.
