P30 vs. P30L Guide Rod Question

1131 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  shuter
So I just picked up a beautiful, 100% as-new P30L V1 Light LEM in 9mm (for $650 with 3 magazines, which I felt was a very good price); and in comparing it to my P30, the guide rod on the L has what appears to be a large stainless steel "sleeve" on it, in addition to the polymer buffer. My P30 is a few years old, and the L is a newer pistol...I'm just wondering whether all P30L models have the stainless sleeve and all P30's don't, or if it's a change in design and new P30's have it now as well?

Thanks in advance for the help!

All P30Ls have the longer buffer with the steel sleeve. The first P30Ls had the longer buffer, but didn't have the steel sleeve. I can only assume that the longer unsleeved buffers didn't hold up to continual firing, so the sleeve was added. The latter is only my supposition.
