I understand how the Firing Pin Block(FPB) safety is actuated and functions, however I am not understanding just how the Firing Pin Safety(FPS) figures into this. Is it actuated in conjunction with the FPB or just how does it function?

Thanks for any advise.

No, it is part 14 and 15 and is only shown on a P30SK diagram and not shown on a P30 or P30L diagram. I can't find the layout online, but I am referring to my owners manual which cover the whole series.

If you field strip your P30SK, you can look at the internals and see how it works. I just cleaned mine yesterday for the first time since I bought it last week. Pretty cool thing getting to examine the guts. Check it out!

I've had mine about 16 months and have field stripped it I know more than a hundred times, more likely two hundred, between cleaning, just looking, and practicing doing so with my eyes closed to get used to it. It is of no help with this issue, but thanks for the suggestion.

Great question -- I didn't know that secondary FP drop safety was there!

There is a cross-pin at the bottom rear edge of the extractor that keeps the pin and its spring in place, and no lever actuates it. It appears to be an inertia-driven pin.

It's shape suggests that it is out of the way until the gun is dropped upside-down onto the top of the slide, at which point it moves to the top of its hole to block the firing pin -- which would be consistent with a concern that the light spring under the original FPSB pin would easily move to the "not blocking" position in that particular drop orientation.

All speculation, but the logic seems to fit.

Crashmc, I understand that, but that is not the FPS, it is the FPB. The FPS is only on the SK version, although I've read where it is, or will, be standard on new P30/L's also. Thanks for your input.
