PayPal, for many, is an indispensable method of moving funds across the Internet. PayPal is also virulently anti-gun. This is from their own published policy :680::

We don’t allow PayPal members to buy or sell any kind of firearm, whether it’s in working order or not. The same goes for certain firearm parts and ammunition.

For example, using PayPal, you can’t buy or sell:

  • Any firearm, including rifles, shotguns, and handguns, whether they’re for sport and recreation, collectibles, or curio or relic firearms.
  • Firearm parts, including but not limited to receivers and frames, silencers, and kits designed to modify guns so that they fire automatically. High capacity magazines, multi-burst trigger activators, and camouflaging firearm containers are other items in this category.
  • Ammunition, including propellants like gunpowder or blank ammunition; ammunition or cartridge cases; and primers, bullets, or propellant powder designed for any firearm.
PayPal does allow folks to use their services to pay for membership and fees on forums. Please know that PayPal is getting a bit more strident in enforcing their sales rules. If an email address is associated with a solicitation to sell prohibited items, there is a better than good chance that PayPal will track it down. And that is when you can expect the threat of having your PayPal account closed. Some folks like to put their email address in their WTS posts on this forum and cheerfully state that PayPal is accepted. While the email does facilitate the Q&A process, it also makes it easy for PayPal to find you and squish you. Please use some common sense in your posts. Don't make it easy for PayPal to hose you.

PayPal pretty much blows the big one for those reasons. I too have warned people of accepting payment that way. Best to just pay their fee and be very mindful of their restrictions. I would recommend Zelle as an online payment method over PayPal.

Good Advice...

Use different email contacts...

Pay-Pal algorithms can sniff out contacts easily...

Its funny, last month I sold a $4000 AH upper and took PayPal payment, paid their stupid fee and never heard a word about. Maybe they are just trying to look good to the public and really just want your money. Its all B-S

I’ve used PayPal several times on gunbroker....didn’t know about this issue! Bummer! Also, FYI, Intuit (TurboTax & QuickBooks) states they will no longer allow firearms purchases with their sponsored credit cards!!!!

How do they know what you’re purchasing with your card?

Folks are sending me PM's asking how PayPal knows what the funds are for. When people do something like: Make a WTS post on HKPro that cheerfully states "PayPal accepted" and include their email address in the ad... That's how they know.

And since the whole point of this thread was to warn folks about PayPal getting intense...
