I think all HK mags are on the pricey side, but straight mags for the MP5/HK-94 family seem to command a premium over the (already pretty expensive) curved mags. Anyone know why? Just a case of something getting more expensive because it isn't made any more?

No, not exactly right, the straight mags are generally less expensive. They don't look as sexy and they don't feed hollow points as effectively.

Okay, got it. I've seen some for sale around $80 each and may have fallen for the "rare" hype that was in the seller's ads.

Any opinions on which would be better to own: factory HK straight magazines or curved contract mags (Korean, Turkish, etc.)?

Depends on what works in your gun. I've gotten lucky enough that I can use any mag in my guns. Even a cheapo 40 rounder feeds flawlessly.

Other than looking a bit gnarley, there is NO advantage to having (read that PAYING EXTRA) for straight mags. They don't work as well... and if a mag kinda works, what the hell do you plan to do... use it?

Unless you're the ULTIMATE collector that must get everything, (even the failures), stick with the plain ol' boring, curved 30 rounders.
