Just bought one for my H&K 91 (1981 manufacture) with broad forend. The groove in their bipod was at too sharp an angle to slide into the channel. I didn't want to force it. I called ProMag who admitted their bipod ("exact replica of original H&K item") wouldn't fit some 91's. Frustrating since prior to buying it, I'd sent a pix of my forend to them. They assured me it would work. It didn't.

Is my only option to spend $165 to $300 for an original H&K bipod? I hope not!

The ProMag bipod is made to fit this wide fore grip: POF Grip!
HK91 Wide Handgaurd Black HK91 G3 PTR91, RTG Gun Parts

The channel on that fore grip is a bit wider. the ProMag will fit that grip. (I know because I tried both.) I had the German bipod, the promag bipod, the german wide fore grip, the POF fore grip etc.....

I found that the German bipod on the POF grip was really loose fitting. And the Promag bipod on the german grip was super tight! When I took measurements I found that they were different specs.

You can make the Promag fit the germane grip by filing it down thinner. Or you can just spend $70 and get a new grip and the Promag will fit.

It's up to you!

Good Luck!

And Be very careful about people who claim they have a german bipod! Even if you have a Promag and a real german bipod next to each other? You really cannot tell the difference! They're almost identical! Except for the fitment issue. The ProMag is just as good as the german ones! IMHO!

I started out with a Pakistan Ordnance Facilities bipod, piece of junk. Only because I could not find the German one.

2 years later, I got a German one.

As the Coca Cola Company used to advertise: "Ain't nothing like the real thing, baby!!" You get what you pay for.

Had same problem. I finally got the promag one to fit my HK and one of the leg release levers doesn't work propery. Yes they are a cheap junky replica.

I have no doubt the real HK one is better. I don't like the wide fore-arm well enough to justify spending the money on a true HK part.

The ProMag and the "real" bipod are made using the same tooling. If I were to take apart both and lay the parts down next to each other I am positive that 99% of the people here could NOT pick the correct parts as being ProMag or the "real" bipod.

That being said:
The difference will be in fitment of the parts and how skilled the person who put the unit together was. And YES! The person at ProMag sucks!! But not to the point that the fitment issue can't be corrected with a little bit of filing on the locking mech.
Any backyard gunsmith with minor skills should be able to get the ProMag tuned to as good as any "real" HK bipod. The parts are basically identical.

The ProMag sells for $70 at Mid Way U.S.A. I'm willing to bet that at least 90% of the ones on Ebay are ProMag and they are selling them as the real deal!!

For me personally it's not worth the risk of buying a so called "real" HK bipod unless they come with factory HK papers.
Because the only thing you can be sure of; is that you will be paying "REAL" HK prices for something that may, or may not be the real deal.

If the seller was a decent gunsmith? He can make the ProMag fit to the point that even an HK dealer couldn't tell it apart. (I know I can!) and I'm just a hack. LOL!!

Good Luck! If you really want the real deal? Only buy it from the HK Authorized dealer with a good reputation. (HKPart.com or HKSpecialist.com) But that's just MHO!
