Similiar to what was posted below I'm the proud new owner of an MR556, I had a few questions before I took her out to the range and wanted to see if anyone had any before range recommendations ( first AR rifle )

I own the following

HK USP .45 Full size ( my very first firearm )
Long Slide 1911
S & W M & P.45
Benelli M4
HK MR556

my questions more pertain to the following.

I have an eotech XPS-02 to put on it not sure how i like the co-witness of the sites, might want to try some flip up sites with it? what do you guys think?

How thoroughly should I disassemble clean lube etc, any particular areas to pay attention to?

Winchester white box ( 55gr I think ) ok for the first time?

Do I need to "break in" the barrell

Any other recommendations?

I already picked up a few magpul e-mags a sling mount and a few other misc. things....

Thanks for any feedback!

am I obligated to post a pic?

Welcome to the fine world of MR556 owners. As far as the sights go it just depends on what you are going to shoot with it. I prefer a scope for more precision shooting. I have consistant groups within one inch at 100 yards. It is a very good match grade barrel. I did give my MR556 a good wiping after I received it but dont over lube it. As far as ammo, I found it shoots just about every grain combonation they have, very well. I am now using Lake City 62 gr green tip penetrators with great success. My barrel did not have to be broken in, it has shot great every time I take it to the range. Mag pul mags work great ( bought several myself). I am amazed everytime I shoot it as it is just the most enjoyabe AR I have ever shot. It fact I now prefer it over the G36 I carried on duty for years. Good luck, shoot straight and hang on for the ride.

Congrats on the new MR556, I just picked one up too. I put a Eotech EXPS 2-2 on it with a 3x Magnifier. The co-witness for my Troy folding sights are low. You'll see just around half of your front sight post before it gets cut off from your eotech.

I tried getting pictures of it, but had difficulties with the camera.

I too would like to know if anyone is breaking in the barrel (cleaning after each shot) or are you just blowing through mags out of the box. Thanks

I just started shooting mine mag after mag and cleaning it after I was (or am) done. It is the most accurate barrel I own as far as AR's go.
ETA: Congrats on the nice weapon to the OP!! You did well!

Thanks for all the advice guy, most replies I have heard about the barrel break in was for the chrome lined style.

I was actually in the market for a SCAR 17 and ended up going this route the HK called to me just like it did when I bought the USP

here's the collection:

Just a few basic pics

After reading G3Kurtz accounts of how the true accuracy potential of the 416 series isn't reached until after a pretty large sum of rounds have been fired, i'd say just bang away and not worry about it as it will only get better over time. A looooong period of time for most recreational shooters.

Congrats on a great rifle!

Spend some time and read the entire manual. Being your first AR-type gun, there are a lot more parts (than a handgun) to get familiar with. I think I disassembeld/reassembled mine a couple times first, cleaned her up and then took it shooting.

then I spent a ridiculous amount of $$ on accessories:)

I hope by Friday or Saturday to buy my new Mr, now have MR223 16.5 and want sell and buy MR223A1 (i have buy used my current MR but like a new, few shot from the previous owner) and have searched from the last message from the forum if anyone had asked the question in the "barrel brake in".
I honestly thought of it, but reading some comments I do not know, it's not a bolt action long barrel for long range shooting but for me, a minimum of brake in is not bad
