I am considering getting one of the PTR 91s and understand they are pretty reliable compared to some of today's .308 rifles.
I'm new to roller lock guns and just got an SP5K
My question is, how often do these rollers or bolts need to be serviced
I'm sure I can find cleaning and maintenance videos but wanted to get an idea of how long they will run before service/ new bolt

They will run until the bolt falls apart.

Just curious about Cleaning intervals
300, 500 maybe 1000 rounds between cleanings, what do you guys do?
I know you said till the bolt falls apart but does that mean justvreplacing rollers or an entire bolt and what round count that could be expected?... I know I'll probably never shoot it that much

I clean after every trip to the range.

But, then I know there are guys out there that only clean when it stops working.

That's pretty much what I do, that or 2 maybe 3 times out to the range max..
My OCD generally doesn't let me go past 300-400 rounds and that's with 5.56
I'll probably clean it every time
I'm excited to get a PTR!

It doesn't take much to clean the bolt, carrier, & locking piece after a range trip. Simply spray with brake cleaner, & re lube. 2 minutes max. The trunnion is what takes the most time to clean. GARY

The only real common wear item on the bolt is the "extractor spring" as HK didn't limit the travel and a miss feed is most likely going to over extend it and ruin the spring. Always a good idea to keep several spare springs on hand. The spring from the .308 rifle is stronger then the 9mm and is a direct replacement.

Yes the PTR will come with the .308 spring, my comment was aimed at your SP5K as they have the same issue with extractor springs and the .308 spring fits it.

The springs don't "break" they just get hyper-extended and thus loose tension on the extractor. It is something you should check after any miss feed. If you can easily wiggle the extractor with your finger the spring is toast.

Even the trunion isnt too hard to clean. I really wet a 4"x4" rag with Hoppes stick it in the mag well on the end f my finger and wipe every thing then let it sit wet while I clean the bolt and carrier. Then I wipe it with a clean rag or two. My barrel face comes out nice and shiny and the trunion grooves are likewise clean. Takes me three or four minutes not including wait time.

I havent posted here in a long time! The G3 series of rifles are dirty pigs. That being said, it doesn't seem to effect function. I have run these things where they are filthy, greasy, full of carbon. The G3 just doesn't stop in my opinion. So if you clean it religiously, great. If you don't, it will still run like a raped ape regardless. It has a bit more recoil than most 7.62 guns, but it works and requires very little service or attention. As said above, it is almost impossible for you to pound enough rounds where you need to worry about rollers etc. If you do, you are an unemployed millionaire to be able to afford the ammunition and time to make that rifle fail.

There is a gun show in town next week and I'm going to look for the slab side handguards, extra mags and a sling.

I heard the G3/91/ PTR run better in bad weather than the scar 17
