My PTR91 has been sitting in my safe too long. I either need to shoot it or sell it.
So I start by wondering what it is worth. Which makes me wonder - which model is it?
It predates the GI version, is there a designation beyond just "ptr91" that I should look for to find out the present market value?

What the serial number is a beginning indicator.
The JLD built guns numbers start with an A, as in A2410. The ones built after PTR took over will have an AW prefix as in AW1234.
A lot of the value lies in WHERE in the serial range it falls. PTR (after JLD) has had numerous quality/manufacturing/vendor problems such as guns that will only shoot certain kinds of ammo (USUALLY NOT SURPLUS).
Everyone on here will chip in if you get more specific.
I have noticed ammo prices starting UP AGAIN, and lines up to a couple hundred yards or more at gun shows here.
If trends go like '08-'09 prices will CONTINUE spiraling upwards!!

Thanks for the info. My serial number begins A2XXX

I think I'll either sell the PTR or a Cetme. The ptr is probably twice the market value and I dont think there is much difference i accuracy. maybe i just got lucky with a great cetme. I'll try to get to the range and compare them side by side soon.

Your ser# is in the best or highest value range, as that gun will eat any ammo. Mine is A30xx, & it also eats anything. It's a premium, & worth mentioning in your for sale ad. GARY N4KVE

+1 on what gary said. I have one slightly above this range also. These have wilson barrels with 10 flutes and possibly 12.

A PTR gathering dust? That's like having an 18 year old Claudia Schiffer waiting for you on the couch and ignoring her

My AW15XX is a great gun, no worries so far
