OK, OK, I got this a couple weeks ago and have always wanted a 54r but NOT a Mosin-Nagant. What does this have to do with HK.....well, check out the custom forearm. Thats right Heckler & Koch G3. No one has ever done this mod to an AK platform before but it is a good idea, full length heat shield and I like the way these HG's feel on my other HK weps. After WWII the Russkies ripped of everything German so this is a little payback, kind of, sort of, maybe. The gun though is a powerful little carbine and the weirdest thing is on the forearm, except the front being cut off, it fits perfect. No movement, no other mods except the swivel hole like it was actually made for this. Very peculiar.

VEPR's are some of the nicest AK varient's out there. And your handguard mod to it, makes it look even nicer.
You can get the ACE Receiver Block, and put a folder on it if you don't like the factory stock.

The factory stock was a wood thumbhole as is the HG. This is the way the are imported so I revised the furniture but thank you for the compliment. I do have a 7.62x39 and a 5.45 from back in the day.

I'm going to show this to my AK friends, I love the AK design(not as much as roller locking but it's damn nice) and that looks both awesome and functional. I'd do that if I still had any AKs laying around.

It is and kicks like a mule. Muzzle flash is huge. Blaine @ Atlantic asked me to T&E this gun along with the 10 round mags soon to be available. I was shooting at mild 1/4 steel plate @100m and it went through that and then through a cast steel pipe 10 ft behind the steel plate. That 54r round is scary powerful. I guess that is why the PKM's and many Russian MG's still use this circa 1891 round.

I'm not an expert, but isn't the 7.62X54R basically on the same power level of our 7.62X51mm ?

Yes it is comparable but the 54r has a greater case capacity than the 51 so it really falls between 7.62x51 and 7.62x63(30.06). The felt recoil to me, is more in line with the .06 and definitely more than 7.62x51 in this platform.

I had a PSL for a while so I know exactly how they are, and the milsurp crap is steel core so yea it will go right through steel plate. I love the VEPRs, my friend had one of the original imports from years ago and it's the best AK I've ever handled.

I would say yes to the plastic wide ones being fitted to a kink, but no to the railed handguard, unless you mill a 1/4 inch off the back of the handguard.
I'd have put on a wide plastic one, but it's in a chest at my parents house.

I have a buddy build AK's for me. It cost a case of beer for each one. That reminds me, I need two get 2 more cases for my new M92 and M85 pistols.
You really need one of these though. It's the one I enjoy the most.
