I'm just wondering why HK did not use the MG42's operating system for a GPMG? Was it b/c of the high cyclic rate of the MG42? Was gas operation with a rotating bolt used for the HK121 because that would have made the machine gun lighter than the MG42? From what I heard, for belt fed GPMGs, high shearing torque is placed on rotating bolts.
