Score Mark Across Follower in Magazine

... Just curious if it is common to see score marks across the follower?

Needless to say, there must be some contact made with the follower between the firing of the last round and when the slide locks back with an empty mag since it is not exposed before that point.

Should I be concerned? Thanks!

All of your magazines or just one? If just one do you use reloaded ammo? The slide doesn't come in contact with the follower, only the last round in the magazine. Reloaded brass can have burrs from landing after being fired. Probably nothing to worry about.

... all of them... even the new ones that came with my VP9, but I suspect it occurred while used in my P30L today... Only used 124 grain American Eagle today... my original P30L mags had them too from the start (after shooting of course).. never used reloads or off brands... Thinking it's the P30L... The scratch is across the follower (side to side) not direction of round (front to back) if that helps at all...
I never noticed before, but all of mine have the same mark. It appears to be where the case mouth scrapes across the follower as the round leaves the magazine when being pushed into the chamber.
I'll have to keep an eye on the wear and consider ordering the part from hkparts.net... Looks like they normally carry them... just would like to know what is the cause of this...
Crappy pic, but this is what I mean... Slight score across follower...

I was actually thinking of posting the same question. All of mine (VP9, P30 and P2000SK mags) have that score mark. But doesn't seem to have any affect on feeding at the moment.
All 9mm mags will have that mark as soon as you shot a few rounds through the mag. It's normal.
All my 45c mags have these marks as well.... completely normal in my experience.

Thank you! At least I now know it's not just me and/or some issue with a pistol! I got a little nervous when I noticed the gouges.
These are still working just fine with more than 10K rounds over them .

Those marks on the magazine followers are caused when the nose of the last bullet in the mag strikes the feed-ramp, and causes the cartridge to pivot into alignment with the chamber. When it pivots, the cartridge rim digs into the follower a little.

That makes sense.

Good to be back. My boss found out I was going to retire and put me on a long project just to be 'a nice guy'. All is good now.
