I’m thinking about purchasing a new .45 and right now I’m torn between the Mark 23 and XDm .45 competition series with just about everything PRP is offering (combat carry trigger job, polished feed ramp, recrowned barrel, .100 extended mag release, guide rod). I just need some advise on which to choose. Pro’s and Con’s?

XDm's are crap. First off the company Springfield is not the same one from yesteryear of when our grand fathers fought the great war. Secondly, do you really want a firearm that has to have optimal grip in order to function? That little dog tail safety can only hurt you if you're muddy, bloody and injured. Comparing a M23 to an XDm is like intentionally going for the fat retarded sister when the hot sister wants to jump your bones.

Now, if you're manly enough go for the M23. But I have to warn you it's not for the

If you must go with gushy striker gun, Both Glock and the M&P are better choices than the XD.

LOL. Tell us how you really feel!

FWIW... I concur. Those who dismiss the concerns over that grip safety (like, you cannot fully retract the slide if it isn't properly depressed) have probably never tried one hand malfunction clearance techniques... among other things.

Wolvee summarized it pretty accurately. Bravo.

Now, comparing the XD-M with the Mark 23 kind of tells me you don't know what it is that you want. You couldn't get anymore opposite on the spectrum of gun ownsership than those two. First and formost, you can buy 4 XD-M's for the price of a Mark 23. The actions are polar opposite and so is the level of quality. Lastly, you have the size of the two firearms.

What is your desired role for this weapon? That should drive your decision making process along with your particular preference(s).

Yeah I know they are two completely different spectrums. The MARK 23 is a monster gun its a beast to say the least I was planning on using it for recreaional use.
Check out my mark 23 vs usp tactical post. The usp tactical is an awesome gun but even it is eclipsed by the mark 23 in build quality. The XDM doesnt compare as you cannot even purchase replacement parts for the "competition model". The gun must be sent back to springfield if anything breaks. It is a lot of money to spend, but the mark 23 is gonna be harder to find as the years go by. The xd will still be there.

I would get the mark 23. Scary accurate, and really, the size is a lot more manageable than people say. It's been discontinued and used ones are only around 100 dollars less than the lowest priced NIB ones you can find. You will not be sorry if you get the Mark.

The Mark23 was actually built as an 'Offensive Weapon', if thats what you call "Recreation" youre probably a SEAL hehehe. I say buy the Mark23 and give us a detailed range report! =)
