Hi All,

Just picked up my first HK, a USP40. Cant wait to get to the range this weekend and give it a go.

I have a question about this polygonal barrel business. It seems that everyone says you can only use certain types/qualities of ammo, so what type/ quality can I use? Is the re-loaded FMJ ammo I can buy at the range good enough? I was think ing of getting Federal Hydra-Shok for home defense, good idea or not?

The only thing you need to do is shoot FMJ bullets. Other then that brand etc does not matter. You can not use lead non jacketed bullets in a polygonal barrel. If you do a search on the subject you can find a lot of information on the subject.

Enjoy the new gun! Nothing better then an HK!!!!

Just don't shoot lead. It's hard to find bullets that aren't jacketed these days so it shouldn't be a problem, just makes sure the box says "FMJ" or "JHP". Even cheap as hell Blazer Brass is FMJ.

Federal Hydra Shok is a JHP, so you should have no problems using it.
