I love the setup on the smaller of the two SL8 pictures there, don't know why but the long rail to me, looks very appealing over the G36 upper that most people add!

bakkufu... i have to say i agree with every1 else ..... the plastic rail does nothing for me and its really awkard cocking the weapon.. im looking into sum bruger n thomet stuff .. but its very pricey and im skint cos it cost me 2400 euro not 1600 unfortunatly... and dept of justice has already refused me a rotex 111 suppressor lmfao

having not had the pleasure of using the SL8 yet ( oooh but I intend to ) I havn't had the firsthand experience to know how the rail affects the cocking lever. Does it really interfere that much that the '36 upper makes that much difference?

btw, I'm glad that anyone is allowed to enter the drinking contest ( I'm ****e at power drinking, but for the HK social aspect, screw it, I'm game for a laugh ) hehe

bakkufu.... ya to be honest its a bit restrictive really ..if the cocking lever was either left or right or in a "T" shape it would be better for that rail as i wouldnt have to put my fingers under the rail. but that design would be horrible for the weapon ... and not keeping in the perfection tradition that H&K have. ive big hands n its just awkard ... it could b cos i use a Steyr aug at work n there piss easy to operate... except for every weapon is for right handed ppl n im a south paw lol .

i do agree with you though that the rail does look the part... but its made of plastic... probably the same materail as the rest of the weapon. imagine if you had a scope on it and shock, horror the weapon fell .... ud probably break the rail cos its the weakest point on it .... me thinks anyway... and with a scope on the weapon there is no need dot such an extended rail .... its only advantage it for the open sights to spread them further apart....

You could photoshop it on like in the catalog!!!! It's probably threaded on in real life. I don't know if you'd be able to buy the rifle with the threaded barrel, but any competant machinist could thread it to the same specs. Just make sure it's concentric to the bore.

Gunhappy - so if there was a metal version of the rail with a T-Bar cocking lever it would be more useable... Hmm, methinks a word with Ghillie is needed lol

As for the supressor, I would imagine as johnnyc says, that there are things that can be done to supress the SL8, just need to find somewhere that can do it, or has done it with some success!

bakkufu.... pretty much yep ... im a qualified fitter/ armourer myself n unfortynatly i dont have access to a proper machine shop or i could make a rail just like standard but more access to the cocking handle. the idea of making a "T" piece cocking handle was off the top of my head n i believe that H&k have the cocking handle design perfect ! so if it aint broke dont fix it !!

ull be in the same boat as me cos your in europe .. anything worth over $100 usd shipped from the U.S needs an export permit on there side .... n as a private civilian ive been told ya wont get it ... so that rules out buyin KAC gear. Brugger & thomet is swiss ( another product besides penknives ) and there stuff is f**King sex !! H&k came over to ireland to show our special forces (Army Ranger Wing) the 416 and 417, they came with B&T rotex 111 suppressors that have a quick attact to the muzzle flash. hahaha i still get a stiffy thinkin about it (quality is amazing !!!) so i enquired about the suppressor... firstly theres machining the barret to accept a flash hider... easy do but with the heavy barrel and a small flash hider i think its gonna look sh*t..... the barrel has to be refinised and to legally allowed be fired it has to be proofed and to so that here we have to send it to the uk as no1 proofs weapons in the country ( i could be wrong on that though )

now heres the real kick in the stones...... to get that suppressor from B&T you need to get an import licence from switzerland because its a military grade suppressor. personally im going for it cos i beleive in buying the best once and no more messing about, you have it and it works well for ever as there is no way a civilian can or should abuse a weapon in such a way as in a military application ( automatic fire... long periods between cleaning.. running ducking diving and the such )

IMO i love the KAC rails cos there emergency sights are look better than the B&T gear ( im only going on internet pics) but i prefer the handguard from B&T as it looks more like a G36 standard design only its metal and is a quad pic rail on it. its pretty impossible get KAC gear in europe unless your law enforcement ( yes i rang KAC and enquired ... another sexual experience). B&T do make other suppressors that i dont think require an import licence but eitherway an Sl8 supppressor would look amazing if it threaded over the barrel and came down the length of the barrel so that it reduces the over all length.

ill keep lookin.. my ideal sl8 at the min would have the B&T front rail, G36 X3 sight ( there so brilliant to be on general issue ) harris bipod legs ...

Well, the german description for the compensator says the following (translated roughly):

Compensator with thread

The assembly costs for the thread on the barrel of the SL-8 are € 110,-.
Numerous tests have approved that the compensator can be help to improve the precision when shooting.


The compensator itself is listed below with a cost of € 89,-.

So it looks like the company Wischo will thread your barrel and then screw the copmensator on.

my prother just pointed out that if i googled "online translator" id have gotten success lol.

from the picture i thought that it was welded on because doesnt seem to be a break where the barrle meets the compensator. luckly i am a machinist lol ... only think is that im in the army n our machine shop is a bit ... pathethic haha but we do have a lathe so i can turn down and thread the barrel myself.

has any1 got any good ideas for what finish i could use on the bare metal threads ?? i hate the finish home bluing kits give !!

i hear the germans are great drinkers wohoo !! id love to go over to Wacken :350: open air concert this year but ive no where to stay and skint from the buying the rifle.

You are right. They are both spacers. The first one is for increasing the lenght of the butt the other is to increase the height of the cheek piece. Both should be black as nothing else is mentioned.
