Can't you side mount the sling attachment off the left or right (3 or 9 o'clock position)?

I put over 15,000 rounds through my CAR-15 over 10 years. It started becoming a jamomatic. It is probably due to my seriously cheaping out on the complete upper receiver. I think the non-chromed bore is slightly messed up.
I used my HK93 for Action Rifle matches. I shot ok, but the weight and trigger pull left me barely competitive with the mass amount of AR-15's out there.
I saved up for three years, hoping the HK416 uppers would become affordable. It didn't happen, so I purchased an complete RRA A4 upper. I decided to add a few extra options, one of which is a UTL II. The problem is that the light is blocked by the sling. How about some sling suggestions. I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars. Heck the Holosight and UTL together cost as much as the whole rifle.

I have a similar rail for the bottm of my SL8-1. The sling is not as much of a problem, but any suggestions would be appreciated.
