That looks like a great alternative, since there is so much CH clearance.

But there is nothing to indicate on the HKParts.net information page, or the manufacturer's page to indicate it is compatible with the HK SP5K, is it?
All 90's series guns use the same rail system so the MFI, B&T or HK's new MLI rail will work on HK94, 93, 91 or SP89 plus SP5K.

I ordered that one to use with my Vortex Razor, will be interesting to see where the dot sits with that one. I don't want co-witness, I'd like the dot to be just above the irons.
Above the irons but below the hood? Your dot should be above the hood with that rail.

Man, I wish we had a way to gather all the mounts vs optics discussions. I think I responded in the clone section when I bought and sold 2 or 3 mounts. I can tell you the lowest optic out there is the Aimpoint Micros at 0.7" optical height. That plus the low B&T (both the 10266 short & 21241 long) and I assume Ultra Low MFI *should* co-witness.

And note the front mounting part of the MFI (see link at end of post for model I had) that I had was really in the way of the CH on the MP5K. Here is a pic I found from HKPRO:

I am not sure if the MFI ultra low is the same.

The mini red dots and 30mm red dots are all higher to some degree. I have a Burris FF3 on its lowest mount and the red dot sits right on the hood using the B&T 10266.

Currently use an MRO with a low mount on the supplied Zenith rail. It puts the dot right above the hood and works well. Note the Zenith mount is the same height as this MFI:

Very helpful, thanks, but what I'm looking for is a way to get the rail and optic back a ways from the CH so I do not scrape the rail when slapping the CH down to put the weapon into battery, etc. Probably kind of a trade off, etc.

The other issue is what kind of cheek weld can you still get with, say, a Choate butt stock while aiming for a lower 1/3 style mount, etc. I don't prefer co-witness.
I got you man! You need the the B&T 21241 mount (you can mount the optic further AFT) + Aimpoint PRO/ACO/Comp etc + the lowest 30mm mount available. I believe that is similar to the 1/3 or 1/4 co-witness, which I prefer as well. Cheek weld should be fine.

Vortex Optics - StrikeFire Tactical 30 mm Ring Low

Now, if you want to run an Aimpoint Micro at 1/3 co-witness, you *might* have to use something like the Larue Micro low mount. Not sure about this though.

Found the thread that talks about Aimpoint Comp M/PROs etc and co-witness.

Great info, guys, thanks much. Re the need for a red dot, it doesn't matter what caliber your carbine is, you're going to be faster with it with a red dot. Period. You might already be more accurate and fast than anyone with irons -- you'll be that much better with one.
