SP89 and K grip question

3344 Views 17 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  autogunner1
Hi,

I'm thinking about selling my SP89 but I don't have the stock foregrip, only the K foregrip. As far as I know, this isn't legal and I need to find a stock foregrip.

Is this correct ?

Thanks

Any suggestions of where to find a stock one ?

I did find them on Black Market Products but not sure how important it is to get a true HK instead of the USA made one on BMP.

What is cost without front grip. Also what is condition.
First off, you need to get rid of the foregrip ASAP. You are in constructive possession of a non registered NFA item....This is one ruling the BATFE has been pretty clear about....
Thanks for that advice. Ever since I found out about this I've had the K off the gun.

Is that good enough or should I not even posess it ?

Kendeepdiver, PM sent.
Personally, Id get rid of it. After all youve posted this on a public forum. Im not a tin hat wearer but.....The forearms are cheap. Let me look and Ill give you some links to where you can find one.
Okay, and again, I appreciate the advice.
Here's the deal. Does the K grip fit any other firearm you have? Probably not. So mere possession of it along with the gun it fits means it can only be assembled in one way, an illegal AOW and that constitutes constructive intent. The same as if you had it on the pistol. Get rid of it or at least get it off the property and have a friend keep it until you get rid of the gun. Then you can have the K grip and sell it someplace.

This is just like the AR-15 pistol build thing about having an pistol using a CAR length buffer tube and a stock that fits the CAR buffer. If you own a rifle length upper or other AR rifles, then owning the stock is OK since it can be fit to other rifles OR to the pistol when the rifle length upper is on there (TC ruling). But owning JUST an AR pistol AND a butt stock that fits it (without also owning other AR rifles or at least an AR rifle length upper) means that the only way the butt stock can be assembled on any of the weapons you have on hand is in the form of an illegal SBR. That is constructive intent and carries the same penalties as if you had the stock actually on the pistol.
This is documented on AR15.com in a letter I received dated November 2004 from the ATFE regarding pistol builds using AR-15 stripped lowers and CAR length buffer tubes. There is a little more in the explanation above than is listed in the letter but it was info clarified in the form of communications with the ATFE.

I'm sure he forgot to add that he owns a registered HK sear, so owning the K grip is OK. ;)

Uh, yeah, that's it

If any of you have a foregrip or a source, please let me know.
There are two forearms for sale on this very board as we speak...
I saw those, thanks.

Does anyone here have one of the Black Market Products foregrip and can advise on the quality of it ?

What's the condition of the gun, what's the $ cost as is without a front guard.
I purchased a Blackmarket SP-89 Style foregrip and it cracked the first time I fired the weapon. It seems to be made of pressed fibers. I would hold out for a genuine one if you are going to return the pistol to stock.
