Thank you Shattered! (Retaining Pin Fix)

Shattered, a while back you gave us some advice on how to fix the problem of having push pins that require a mallet and punch to remove…I took your advice and it worked like a champ.

For those interested, here’s the recipe:
1. A tube of diamond dust or lapping compound – I used Permatex valve grinding compound from HERE Amazon.com: Permatex 80037 Valve Grinding Compound - 3 oz.: Automotive for $6
2. A drill
3. A sacrificial push pin willing to give itself up to the cause – you can find replacements for about $8

Process:
1. Remove the retaining spring from the pin and grind the lip off so you have a smooth surface
2. Chuck the pin into the drill nice and tight
3. Apply lapping compound to the pin
4. “Drill” the pin back and forth through the hole – making sure the stock is in place and the drill is nice and straight. On my 89k I left one pin in place while cutting the other hole out
5. Periodically apply more compound as needed to continue cutting
6. Occasionally try a new pin so you’ll know when to stop cutting
7. Remove all the compound when done…otherwise it will keep cutting

This took me about 20 minutes and the results were wonderful. Both pins come out with finger pressure.
Thanks Shattered!

How about a two party out of state check written in pencil?
You can send me chewing gum and I'll tell him thanks for you.
Ask Will....."Big Red" chewing gun goes along way!

Make your checks payable to "The Professional Arms Keeping the Dream Alive Fund."
Better read the ingredients list on that chewing gum first
Shatterd is the man...

He offered me my first chance to shoot a MG. He called it 'poisoning my mind' or some such thing. For that moment I am forever in debt to him and his wife...
