The MARK 23 for me is the last size on the high end of the spectrum that can be reasonably employed as a self defense, or end of the world gun. Definitely not a CCW, but I've heard it done by a few giants. There was a Gem dealer I knew through a friend that was damn near 7ft tall that carried a Desert Eagle, and one of his buddies had a MARK 23. They were just freakishly large people though.

But I've got a drop leg for my MARK 23 and it's in my "Never coming back kit" if you will. That's the pistol I can completely trust my life to in any situation and consistently score hits at ranges I would't be comfortable running any of my other pistols. I don't know if that's the placebo effect, or if it's really that good. I'm currently leaning on it's just that good. Merica.

It's the most expensive gun that I don't regret selling. It's pretty f'ing big and annoying after you have owned one for 5 years. It's a head turner and a crowd pleaser, and knowing its history I would insist on the MK23 if I ever found myself in combat. But it was a pain in my ass everytime I went to a shooting range.

But for real, it's a large gun and too big for most to carry but as a range or home defense gun, it's just fine. The grip and controls are barely bigger than a USP45's and it's not at all as awkward as a 50AE Deagle.

sadly in Canada we are not allowed to concealed carry or hunt with handguns...they can only be fired at an approved range so i dont share some of those concerns.

I think the Mark 23 in the future is going to be like the P7 is now. You know, damn I should purchased one when they were in the $500 range (P7). A decade from now they will be legendary, and you will kick yourself for not buying one when you didn't think you could afford it. Think of it as an investment.

In the event of a catastrophic event, it would be a go to weapon for reliability alone.

I was at my local gun shop today and they have one for $1600.
